America
A/N: yo my goonydudes, it's been a while. I have lowkey been ignoring Wattpad bc it's all message board notifications but I finally went through that stuff, and I'm feeling very idk. So anyway, I'm going to an open mic night tonight at a java plus and I'm performing off the page so AH. It's gonna be so fricking fun. This is in fact one of the 2 poems I am performing there, so enjoy :).
I pledge allegiance to the flag,
Like a soldier, because it has become a battlefield,
In the United States of America,
As a free for all war between man and woman, white and color, rich and impoverished,
And RIP the republic,
Because it has become a dictatorship,
For when we stand,
The NRA laughs in our direction,
One nation,
Divided by any difference,
Under god,
Who is ashamed because we keep ripping off hijabs, shaming religions and the way people love,
Yet indivisible,
Is what we are brain-washed to think,
With liberty and justice for all,
Who are straight, white, men and hey, being rich might help too.
And y'all are asking why I don't stand with my hand over my heart?
Because it only hurts to fantasise about a country that never existed,
I'm being a role model to the younger generation,
I refuse to recite your broken promises,
Because I don't believe in lying to children,
So until we fix it I refuse to stand,
Unless it's to fight for the country WE were promised as children,
Because we grew up and realized that the last things black brothers hug is concrete and the last thing they see is wearing blue, shooting them down with a broken promise,
Because they said god is love but he'll send you to hell for loving wrong,
As if it's even possible to love wrong,
As if you can put borders and boundaries around a heart and train it like a dog,
Because they said everyone has a right to equal pay,
You think the wage gap for women is bad, a disabled person makes 40 cents to the white mans dollar,
So they can't support their family,
Probably because they're portrayed as unlovable and unable to have one,
Because by the time I was in 7th grade I heard people using autistic as a slur for stupid,
Because we call an entire race terrorists for isis but the white dudes with the pointy hats don't represent Christians,
Because teachers said they'd always keep us safe,
Check the definition of safe because we're not,
It took 17 to prove it,
And now a bunch of 1st graders get lollipops for shutting their mouths during active shooter drills,
But the adults are still sitting on their asses,
It's forced me to make sure you know what to do in the case that I die in a school shooting don't just drop my body in front of the NRA,
I want you to have my goddamn funeral on their door step,
I want them to watch my parents cry over an unopened casket,
Because my face was turned into another tattered piece of clothing,
And we still tryin' to save little shreds of little brothers' innocence, even thought it's been long dead, we hold it hollow, as it crackles in our arms, like the white lies of 9:15 am.
A/N: omg you made it to the end!
Thanks, remember to give it a nice little vote and comment if you will :). This was originally written as a response to my history teacher last year(he still hasn't heard it) when I was sitting, not doing the pledge and asked "is this laziness or beliefs?" And I was like ohoho do I gotta lotta beliefs for you buddy. And now I'm performing it off the page! Yay :). Look up java plus and go there! I like it more than Starbucks, and I say that honestly.
