All last night's cares and woes

have dissipated in the throes

of waking to a bright and shining day.

Haunting dreams that filled my slumber

have now reduced in number

and their fleeting menace swiftly cast away.

Through the window I see sunlight

and the promising enchantment

of beginning once again another day.

Would it be that I could venture

out into that lemon shower

leaving fate's relentless harness far behind.

Just once again to savour

heaven's warmth upon my skin

to feel its calm effect upon my mind.

But alas that wish cannot be real

and this window's hopeful view

will have to be the solace that I find.

I will stand and reap its glory

through these sectioned panes of glass

welcoming each sunbeam to my face.

Knowing when the day is done

the view renews without the sun

allowing nightmares to return apace.

Throughout the night I'll lie alone

defending 'til the sigh of dawn

when once again it breaks upon my face.
