Monsters
Never oh never have I heard the cry
Of an eagle soaring high
Nor have I ever heard
The song of so many forgotten birds
The Lynx, the wolf, and the bear
You didn't give us much reason to fear
Yet onwards we slaughtered
Telling our sons and daughters
That monsters once ruled this land
Enormous beasts and massive wingspans
From fen to forest to mountain tall
You once roamed every inch of them all
But because of our greed disguised by hate
And our incessant need to cremate
We left you dead in a ditch with no feathers to fly
Or stuffed in a 'gallery', old hide, fake eyes
Yet, the monsters they're still here
And surprise surprise they have the government's ear
But if we speak up now loud and clear
Maybe they'll hear us before the end is too near
And of the monsters, where will they go?
Perhaps somewhere they're wanted i.e. down below
