from my collection Meredith Louise Greer's Thoughts She Thought About

 /lęt/

Imagine letting every care you had in the world free like a dove.

Letting the blunt edges of the wind cut off at the fray edges of your hair as you drive away from a temporarily forgotten antiquity.

Let the alkalinity of the night air neutralize the acidity of your beer-logged lips.

Let's dance to the rhythm of music with no music as our ten dollar boots withstand one last caramba.

Forget the future, live in the now, let go the past and make it last.

Let your parents and everyone else around you believe the synthetic truths of the "I'm okay." and "I'm fine." banter.

Stop letting the thoughts of you being happy be only a thought.

Lay onto the corroded car hood and let it's zinc endothermia corrode into your freckled skin.

Let's all enjoy this moment in the midnight as morning doesn't permit joy.

Your jeans will become unripped, and your cigarette with become unlit but let it all return tomorrow night as the clock

stroke strokes

one.
