The Essence of Grief
As a loved one departs, we are prompted to cry,
A few remain strong, while the majority tries.
Trying to move on, but not sure where life leads,
Reliving each moment of their lives, filled with good deeds.
As the body rests, the soul is now freed,
But in the kitchen, there's one more chair than we need.
A place of food, laughter, and fun,
Became a pool of sadness, remorse, and wisdom.
Waking up every day, crying the same tear,
Once bonded together, now you're a severed pair.
Pasted into this world like a sticker,
But we are nothing but a burning candle, where our flame constantly flickers.
Inside feels really empty, as I watch you sleep
These are things in life we can have, but can't keep
As the memories reflect in my mind, my heart skipped a beat.
As I became overwhelmed with the essence of your grief.
