Chapter 7

She made it! Lilianne is now 16 again and in highschool. The first thing she saw is the poem she just burned, but in this timeline, she just wrote it. It is in front of her along with books and notebooks.

"What's that?" a familiar voice asked her, it's Winona.

She then realizes that they are sitting around a table in their school library. Winona is in front of her beside Claude while Tristan is beside her. So Claude really became their friend, huh.

"This?" she asked in return, talking about the paper. "Uh, it's just a reviewer." she made an excuse as she hid it in between the pages of the book.

"Wow, you're really serious about reviewing in the library, huh? I thought we're just here to chitchat." Winona kids.

"I mean, education is important." everyone looks at Lilianne after she said that as if she committed a crime.

"What? Did I say something wrong?" she asked in confusion.

"Well, you have a point. It's just... it's the first time we hear it from you." Tristan answered.

"Yeah, you sound like an adult telling how important education is so we should study hard." Claude added.

"Do I?" asked in disbelief, feeling kinda offended.

"Yup, you're like ten years older than us for a second." Winona replied.

"Oh..." Lilianne really is ten years older than them. She forgot how to act like a teenager again. "I'm just joking. Who likes studying anyways? What are we? Nerds? Let's just chit chat."

"By the way, what are your plans after highschool? College to be exact. What course do you want to take?" Lilianne added.

"You know that I always wanted to be a nurse someday." Winona answered "You wanna be a teacher, right?" Lilianne nods at Winona's question.

"Wow, that's nice that you already know what you wanna be in the future. I don't have any idea." Claude said.

"Same! I'm just gonna take the course that is available." Tristan agreed.

Maybe the reason why Tristan and I no longer took the same course is because it was no longer available? But why did Claude take it? Lilianne thought.

"I'm just gonna choose what they choose too." Claude

"Yeah, being a nurse or a teacher sounds good." Tristan

"I think I wanna be a teach–" Lilianne cuts Claude's words as she says, "Nurse! I think being a nurse suits you. What do you think, guys?"

"I was about to say tea–" Claude was once again cutted by Lilianne.

"You agree, right? I mean, you're a nice guy and you can take care of his future patients very well. And plus, you can take it with Winona so she won't be alone in college. It must be sad to be alone in college. Hmm?" Lilianne explained, trying to convince everyone. "Then I will be taking an education course with Tristan, right babe? You know, hashtag relationship goals?" she chuckles, tryna should like a teenager who prioritizes their relationship status as if that's the only thing that matters. Well, it does for her. She can't just let this slide. This is what she had been fantasizing for years and now she is finally dating Tristan. She can't just throw away her second chance at being with Tristan.

"Hmm, being a teacher is not bad." Tristan states "Plus, it's your dream job so I want to be with you in your journey to achieving it."

"Aww, that's so sweet, babe. Thank you." Lilianne exclaims as she hugs Tristan.

"Oh God, get a room." Winona jokingly rolled her eyes and grimaced which earned a hearty laugh in their group.

"Well, that's cool!" Claude blurt "That's really a cute relationship goal. While, Winona and I will be taking nursing, hashtag friendship goals."

Lilianne smiled. Everything is according to her plan. That's it! Their future is back to normal — except the fact Tristan and Lilianne are now dating and they have a new friend now — everything is back on track.

Or that's just what she thought...

——

It's dismissal time. Everyone's sorting out their things, excited to leave the classroom. After Lilianne organizes her bag, she walks toward Tristan, who is still arranging his stuff, and waits for him so they can leave together. The four of them always go home together.

Claude appeared by their side. "Shall we go now?' he asked Tristan.

"Where are you two going?" Lilianne wondered.

"Oh! I'm sorry, babe. I forgot to tell you. Claude and I will be taking some of our missed quizzes. You don't have to wait for us. It might be long." Tristan explained.

"I guess it's just me and Winona then." Lilianne declared.

"Did someone mention me?" Winona joined the conversation, "Are we leaving now?"

"It's just us, Win. They're taking their missed quizzes." Lilianne answered.

"Oh, ace your quizzes!" Winona stated.

They bid goodbyes to each other as they separated; Tristan and Claude to the teacher's office, and Lilianne and Winona on their way outside the school.

It's a bit quiet and awkward when the two girls are walking home. It's probably because the two boys are not around.

Lilianne was just about to shrug it off and enjoy the silence but she noticed that Winona was zoning out while frowning. Winona is usually smiley and the one who initiates the conversation. Something's odd.

"What's wrong?" Lilianne asked but received no response. Winona was just looking at the road. As if she was entranced by her thoughts, locking her away from reality.

"Winona?" Lilianne stopped walking and called her.

Winona walks a few steps forward Lilianne when she notices that she was no longer walking with her. She looked back and asked, "Why did you stop?"

"I was talking to you but you're ignoring me." Lilianne replied as they both started walking again.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't hear. I'm just thinking about... uh... something." Winona stutters

"Care to share?" Lilianne asked in confusion

"Well... it's just..." Winona sighs, "Have you ever had romantic feelings for another person but you know they will never feel the same towards you?"

Lilianne was startled by the question. Of course she does. For a long time she had been suffering unrequited love only to know that the feelings were mutual but it's just too late and now she's rewriting the future. Now, her friend feels the same and she knows whom Winona is talking about — it's Tristan! She suddenly felt guilty. She should be in Winona's place.

"Well, you probably don't because your first love reciprocates your feelings." Winona answered her own question.

"No, I actually do know that feeling." Lilianne corrects.

"You do?" Winona asked, surprised.

"Yep. It hurts. A lot. But what can I do if he's happy with someone that is not me? I don't wanna ruin their relationship. I don't want to ruin his happiness. If he's happy with someone else, I'll be happy for him. I'll just... move on." Lilianne almost choked in her last line. Lies and hypocrisy. If she is really happy for Tristan back then, she shouldn't be here changing the past. Oh, the things you do for love.

"Wow, I didn't know you'd been there. That's exactly what I feel right now." Winona uttered in amusement, "So Tristan wasn't your first love?"

Lilianne shrugged. Tristan has always been her greatest love but it's complicated to answer the question.

"Okay, I won't force you to tell me who you are talking about since you didn't ask me too." Winona chuckles, "But it just hurts a lot and I don't know if I can move on."

Lilianne just kept quiet. She didn't know what else to say because she too didn't just move on. Nobody talked again until they separated ways to their own houses.

Lilianne just looked at Tristan for she doesn't know how long. She didn't do anything but just watch him as he sleeps, savoring the moment. She is so happy, no, scratch that, the word happy is an understatement to what she is feeling. No words could describe what she is feeling right now. Her heart could burst from all the joy and love she has. She just kept on scrutinizing the love of her life until he moves and woke up.

"Good morning, babe," Lilianne was mesmerized by the sound of Tristan's morning voice. She couldn't handle the feeling. She hopes this could last forever.

"Babe?" Tristan called her again since she didn't reply. Lilianne was too frozen to speak. She still feels like she's dreaming. Well, dreams do come true for her. "Are you crying?"

That's when Lilianne realized that her face was wet with tears. It's tears of joy. She immediately wiped off the tears on her cheeks.

"What's wrong?" Tristan approached her, "Bad dream?"

"Yeah, you could say that." Lilianne smiles at him, still cannot believe that they are here together sharing the same bed.

"Hmm? What is it about?"

"I had a dream that we weren't together."

"That is a nightmare! I can't even imagine that."

"You have no idea." she chuckles. He has no idea how much Lilianne waited for this moment.

"But I'm here, okay? I'll never leave you. I love you." Lilianne felt like she could literally melt by what Tristan had said. She feels like a teenager all over again. There are butterflies all over her stomach.

After Tristan has said that, he leans forward to kiss Lilianne. She froze. It was just a peck but it feels like forever. If this is a dream, she doesn't wanna wake up anymore!

"Come on, I'll prepare breakfast." Tristan stands up and walks toward the door, waiting for Lilianne to follow him but she is still frozen from what just happened. "Babe?"

"It was our first kiss." Lilianne blurted her thoughts out loud

"What?" Tristan chuckes, "We kiss everyday, what do you mean?"

Lilianne's face turned red. She wants to bury herself from embarrassment. But she just laughed it out. She doesn't want to bury herself. She worked hard to be with Tristan right now. She won't just let it away.

"Every kiss felt like a first kiss to me." she just said

"Oh, wow, that's smooth. I think you're just hungry." Tristan kids and they share a hearty laugh before starting their day together.

"I heard there'll be a reunion of our 10th grade class next month." Tristan announces while the two of them are sharing breakfast together, "Claude told me. He asked if we would come."

It's nice that they are still friends with Claude now. "Sure, why shouldn't we be?"

"Yeah, that's what I told him too. We don't really have any plans next month."

"Is he coming?"

"Yeah."

"Great. What about Winona?"

Tristan almost choked on his food. He drank water and paused for a bit before asking, "What?"

Lilianne furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "I asked if Winona is coming too."

Silence was all you can hear from Tristan after Lilianne spoke.

"Why? Did I say something wrong?" Lilianne break the silence

"Winona's dead."

"What?!"

"Don't you remember? She killed herself. Next week is her 10th death anniversary."

Lilianne froze and started shaking. Winona killed herself ten years ago? That's the time she kept on going back to change the present. "It's my fault." she said

Tristan resorted to her. "Hey, don't blame yourself. It's nobody's fault."

"It is my fault! I shouldn't have done that." Lilianne starts crying

"Done what?"

"Wait, what is exactly the date she died?"

"February 8, 2012."

That's the day she last traveled to.
