Monarch - The brave butterfly
I soar over mountains
With passion glee
For miles I must journey
Great lakes I will see
...
From north to the south
Over plains, hills and streams
I'll perch among thousands
I'll rest among trees
...
I'll go for the winter
For months I will stay
In spring when it's warmer
Your garden I'll grace
...
I'm orange and black
On milkweed I'll feed
My next generation
Depending on me
...
I'm magic
I'm beauty
A great sight to see
I'll travel great distance
Wild, high and free
...
Four generations
One will stay survive
Milkweed in your garden
On that I will strive
...
From south to the north
Three thousand full miles
I'm Monarch, exhausted
A brave butterfly

A/N: In 1986, the Mexican government created the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve which protects 62 square miles of forests in the Sierra Madres where hundreds of million of monarchs spend each winter. They journey approx. 3,000 miles back to Canada in the spring to start their four cycles once again.
