What's it to Ya?
With deepest respect and apologies to Leonard Cohen's 'Halleluiah'
I took a stroll the other night
the stars were out the moon was bright
a breeze caressed the trees with gentle fingers
I wandered lonely in the dark
and found a bench across the park
and sat there with a memory that lingers
It wormed its way into my mind
for something that it could not find
my heart had shut it out by wearing blinkers... saying
What's it to ya? What's it to-o-o a-ya?
I glanced up at the building lights
the petty quarrels, the bitter fights
and all the angry souls that just say, screw ya
A melting pot of angst and fear
where nothing is retained as dear
and all the names are gone that ever knew ya... saying
What's it to ya? What's it to-o-o a-ya?
I wiped my eyes and shook my head
stood and headed home to bed
the night my only friend to still remain
A glinting spark still trying to burn
against my heart and soul's nocturne
about that memory's desperate refrain... shouting
What's it to ya? What's it to ya? What's it to-o-o a-ya?
