as we drive
the raindrops patter on the window
and play a game of tag

and one races to the edge

soon enough there's a puddle in the corner of the glass
they'll never be free
so I do what I can
and I turn on the windshield wipers

most of the droplets of rain are gone
but one remains
alone

and then another joins it
and the cycle repeats

as I watch
the game restarts
and the same droplet is left behind
again
and again
and again

never leaving the loop
never free

the only one who stayed
