Worthy Friendship
Written January 10, 1930 at age 35
There is no need to cross the briny sea
To find a friend more loyal than the rest;
A pal who is indeed a friend to me,
Whose smile, whose touch, whose kiss on me is pressed.
To see such love, and feel not love's embrace,
My willing heart grows weary all alone.
To feel your love, to taste it, that were grace;
'Twould lift a burden twice the weight of stone.
One kiss! What joy and power it would bring!
If given from your understanding heart,
My life would be a truly noble thing
From which unfettered happiness would start.
What trouble this great gift of love to give,
When so much rests upon its magic power?
In hope of home and loved ones I still live,
Yet lonliness is mine this very hour.
The child of happiness is nobel youth;
The child of lasting love is radiant health.
So let us live each honored day in truth,
And thus bequeath our offspring endless wealth.
Note - The title was about friendship... I think he detoured.
