Written November 23, 1954 at age 60

Thanksgiving time, with time for thanks,

Originated with the Yanks;

And, since each State has Yankee stock,

They all remember Pilgrim Rock.

The hardships that the Pilgrims knew

Were more than comes to me, and you;

Yet, they took time to humbly bow

To God for all He did endow.

A few short centuries ago

They thanked God from Whom blessings flow.

They thanked Him for their bounteous store;

They thanked Him for their health, and more.

That day each wrong was rectified

that they might in their God abide.

And when Thanksgiving Day was done,

They were at peace with God and Son.

Today, before we humbly pray,

Let's be forgiving all the way.

Let's clear our hearts of inner strife

That we may have the calmer life.

Then, with no burden on the soul,

We're free to reach the higher goal

Of thankfulness for all we may

Partake of, on Thanksgiving Day.
