It's Up To You
Written October 22, 1934 at age 40
A golden star was shining
In the garden of her heart;
This mother who had one more son to give.
And though her heart was pining,
Such a love could never part
As infused his being while here he did live.
He was in that brave battalion
Which refused to kill the son
Of a mother dear who loved her only boy.
This battalion tossed its rations
And tobacco and its fun,
To those driven lads who took these gifts with joy.
In return they did not battle:-
Love had won each as a friend;
And the gold-star mother heard the joyful news.
When "Though shalt not kill" is honored
War will meet its timely end.
After all, the time is NOW for you to choose.
