A Raindrop's Mission

Written March 8, 1954 at age 59

Far out on the ocean

Where the billows roll,

Forced by strong wind motion,

Rides a liquid soul.

O'er expanse of water

Heat waves vaporize

Liquid from each quarter,

Soaring to the skies.

Winds then waft each fraction,

Over hill and dale,

Till its mate attraction

Binds its liquid sail.

Lightning from its station

Flashes through the air,

Causing condensation,

Absenting its glare.

Tiny drops descending,

Quench the deadly thirst.

Tiny stems ascending

From the seeds which burst.

Liquid souls attracting

Nearby films of dew

While the plant's enacting

Through its blossoms new.
