Another Biology Poem

Yep... I had to write another one awhile back, so here it is...

Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Poem

Every living thing needs to breathe,
For animals and plants it's different to achieve,
While one uses cellular respiration for life,
For plants photosynthesis will definitely suffice

All energy comes from the sun,
And when light hits the leaves the process has begun,
Chloroplasts have thylakoids filled with chlorophyll,
Just add water and light-dependent will make ATP with skill

Oxygen is released, that much we knew,
And the ATP is used for round number two
The Calvin Cycle has many a name,
Such as light-independent or dark, but they are the same

In a plant's stroma the ATP is used
And oxygen through the stomata too,
A molecule of sugar is made,
And Adenosine Diphosphate with a phosphate group is recycled again

But animal cells have it backwards, you see
They use sugar and oxygen to make ATP
And water is released, does this ring a bell?
And glycolysis, plants do as well!

Within the cytoplasm glycolysis takes place
This anaerobic process breaks down glucose into pyruvate
Two ATP molecules are also made,
But step two makes ATP in spades

First it's the Kreb's Cycle in the mitochondrial matrix
Where water, sunlight, and ADP+P mix
This makes ATP, and CO2 is released
This is true of every person and beast

Then finally it's the electron transport chain
And the electrons enter the cristae, or mitochondrial membrane
From the oxygen we breathe and the sugars we eat,
ATP is made, and water released

Photosynthesis and cellular respiration work together perfectly
Without one the other would cease to be,
It's one giant cycle without an end
(Until mankind breaks something we just can't mend)
