A Beautiful Maiden

Forever wandering these dusty halls
From room to room, from door to door
Spiraling staircases creak and groan
Doors rattle in their frames

Rats scurry across rafters, tails twitching,
Beady eyes glinting in the suffocating darkness,
Shrill squeaks falling on unhearing ears
Only vermin live here

Cobwebs stretch between once golden chandeliers
Ancient portraits frown at tattered carpets
A faint crescent shines through a broken window
The only sign the world still exists

My pale hands slides down the banister
Beautiful chocolate locks fall across my face
A dress of silk and moonshine clothes my figure
Tears if diamond glitter upon my neck

Elegant and poised, I glide silently
My footsteps are smooth and soundless
A whisper follows me, replacing my shadow,
A vanished remnant from a time long forgotten

My once sparkling blue eyes
See nothing and everything
And the echoes of an era past
Forever wander these dusty halls

This is it, my favourite and best poem. It even went in the school magazine!
