Distraction-Poem #58
It's too late,
Too late at night.
Can't sleep,
Too many thoughts in my mind.
I need a distraction,
So I pull up my phone.
Hours and hours,
Later more.
My thoughts still plague my mind,
Lingering behind.
Even dreaming,
Still they stay.
Showing up,
In such a discreet way.
Maybe just a phone message,
Sometimes a book.
Sometimes outright,
Demons one, me zero.
My dreams have many littered things,
I'm trying to avoid.
Someone save me,
From this world.
Distraction, distraction,
Pull out a book and read.
Stay up later,
And later still.
Don't let things catch up,
Don't let things overspill.
Distract yourself,
Keep writing!
You're way too far behind,
You've disappointed everyone.
Oh no, my thoughts,
Keep trying to escape them.
Run, run, run,
Distraction's still the answer.
Ignore all other little things,
Wait until you're pulled together.
Distraction, distraction,
Running out of distractions.
Every little thing I do,
Brings me right there back to you.
Ignore it, ignore it,
No good will it do.
