Dragonflies
The metal one that used to be mounted next to the front door sits on my dresser.
It waits for you to come back,
To re-mount it on a wall,
Just like I wait for you.
For another Easter bag to be dropped off,
Another road trip filled with bridges and a lone pirate ship on a forgotten shore.
You come by,
Wings fluttering so quickly it almost feels like you were barely there after you fly off.
But the love you left behind always lingered,
Long after you left.
It still does,
Weighing in my bones,
Waiting to be replaced by new hugs and laughs that will never come back.
I never truly knew dragonflies were your favourite until you were gone.
Only after you left did I start seeing them everywhere,
Following me.
And I can only hope that it's you.
