She held their hand and smiled at her lover.
"But won't you miss me once I'm gone?"
She smiled sadly and squeezed her hand tighter.
"I know I'll see you again, some day. Somewhere in a field of flowers, somewhere where the sun shines and your skin glows and you're finally able to dance the way we wanted to."
They weakly smiled, the machine beeping in the background holding steady.
"I'll always love you, no matter where I am."
She held back her tears for them. She didn't want them to see her sad. She could be strong one last time.
"That's why I'm not afraid. Because I know I'll always find you."
They closed their eyes with a weak smile, sinking into the bed.
"I'm so tired. Please don't go. I don't wanna be alone."
She felt her heart crack, and it was hard to keep her composure as her voice wobbled and eyes watered.
"I'll never leave you."
"I love you forever and always."
She choked back and sob and held their hand to her heart.
"Forever and always."
