A Christmas Poem

Wrote this back in 2008 and forgot about it. Just found it again today while looking through an old journal.

You knew that we would kill you.

You knew how many people would curse your name;

You knew that they would hate and despise you.

You knew all this, and still you came.

You came, though you knew our hearts,

That there would be no room for you in many.

You knew that most wouldn't accept your gift.

You knew this better than any.

You came knowing your own death.

You knew of the coming cold and lonely day

When you would be forsaken, crucified.

Your friend would betray you for pay;

You knew what it meant before.

You knew what number would choose to follow you,

And knew all the heartache we would bring you.

You thought the price worth paying too.

You knew these and weighed the cost.

You thought us precious; on the cross you would stay.

Knowing all we would do, you still came here;

You were born to die on Christmas day.

What more is there left to say?

Jesus Christ, happy birthday.
