Rising Waters and White Waves

My heart is like an ocean.
A churning sea,
Confusion rolling in waves,
Fog rising to cover my eyes.
The world is a current.
Some find it easy to float,
Others sink,
And some can swim the other way.
As for me,
I'm lodged between two crushing rocks as the water rises.
White foam splashing around me,
Yelling "You are!",
"You aren't!",
"Choose!".
Choose.
I cannot float,
I flounder.
Yet I refuse to sink.
But how can I swim against the current?
When who I think I am is defined by a ring,
A ring I cannot wear,
A ring which holds no meaning to most.
You may ask what love is to me.
Love is a boat on the waves.
But it is a boat steered by expectations,
And rules,
Which to follow?
Which to break?
Rising waters.
