as humans we fear things
like darkness and death
yet create the violence and hatred
that do those things best

as humans we fear things
like our planet warming
yet we make things that perpetuate
the unending burning

as humans we fear things
like monsters and war
without realizing we let them in
that we built the door

as a human what i fear
are my own hands and mind
and that all we may do
is leave destruction behind

as a human what hurts me
is that i'll never see
what this planet was like
without people like you and me
