I'd rather have options

When I grew up I was told that Girls liked Boys and boys liked girls.
I was told that Girls wore pink and Boys wore blue.
I was told that Girls were pretty and Boys were petty.
But I supposed I was a bit of a rebel.

When I grew myself up I wore blue, just to kill the pink I should identify with.
When I grew myself up I understood that colours were colours and that was that.

I kissed a girl at six because it felt right.
I wish I would have been told that Girls like Girls and Boys like Boys. And some people even like both.

I wish I was told that because I thought everyone felt that way. I thought it was a thing no one talked about but did.

I wish today I could have more choices. More than just a boyfriend. More than just a boy. I wish I had the choice because then I wouldn't feel like I should pretend that I haven't kissed girls.

If they had given me a choice I wouldn't keep my girlfriends secret and everything a secret.

If I had been given a choice then maybe I would have realised sooner that it is normal.

If I had been given the choice then I wouldn't have cried over it. I wouldn't have hid my journals and wondered why perhaps I felt that way all this time.

I wish I had a choice because then I wouldn't feel so strangled.

If I had been given a choice then everything would have been so much easier and I wouldn't have killed myself trying to fit inside a capsule that I couldn't fit.
