When the World was Ours

I suggest listening to the song as you read. Just a suggestion.

Six years it all began
And six years it's all been forgotten.
That barn near the town's edge, standing to bright and tall.
It reminds us all that we shall never fall.

But a man is sitting on its roof
Looking out into the fields where his best memories took.
Though now older he sits and watch,
The younger generation helping with the flock.

Sheep graze the field,
Dogs bark and shout,
With children all running about.
A boy youngest of them all was running on all four legs,
Ears and tail of a dog,
And the same mindset as a dog.

The middle child sat on the fence watching his siblings.
Rolling his eyes and groaning how they were being such pups.

The oldest stood big and tall,
Having his wolf features exposed and all.
Looking like a Shepard but the face of a child.
Nothing can break his childish smile.

So as the man on the roof looked over his children in delight
He was caught off guard when a woman gave him a fright.
None other than his wife who sat down at his side.
She gave him a warm smiled that filled his heart with light.
She was a torch in the darkness,
The brightest star that lit up during the day and night,
There was nothing that could make her less bright.

Smart, cunning, and wise.
All things he's learned to love over the years.
Putting her head on his shoulder they look out to see,
Not the children but a dark black Sea.

The man looked at the sky in hopes for a light.
But all he saw was a red giant sun, dying before his eyes.
He looked to his wife but what he saw was scaring,
His wife was coal black, with a red bleeding hole from her left side.

She lifted her head and stared into his eyes.
"Why?" She asked.
"Why did you let me die?"

The man had no words, just a lump in his throat.
"I knew you didn't care. Everyone always said I was just and old toad."

The man shook his head, for it was not true.
He never listened to what anyone else said,
Because they where just jealous of what they had was pure and true.
But now he was not so sure.

His eyes full of tears as he saw her slowly fade.
He tried to save her but she waved goodbye.
All alone on that old barn, the sun exploded and bid the world goodbye.

A man woke up, sweating like a horse.
Looking around as if he was looking for remorse.
Sitting up he felt really hot,
So felt his forehead and looked out the window.
"Just a nightmare," he said.
"It can never true..."

But he knew that he was wrong.
His wife did die,
Shot from the left side.
They were never even married, or engaged for that matter.
But love felt that way, for it lasted ever and ever.

Now she was gone, she died as quickly as she was born.
He remembers being at her side when she passed,
She had no tears, for it was only him.
He remembers all the times he's helped around the barn,
And all the times they've read about the lost world of Charn.

Looking out the window he spoke to himself.
"Stacy... I'm so sorry. It was all my fault."
He never did anything wrong, and it was never his fault.
But ever since that day he's blamed himself and would for the rest of his life.
The days only shuffled past, and the sun felt much warmer back then.

"I remember when... Like gathered embers, I remember back when the world was mine..."
