Barefooted Treasures
Bare Footed Treasures
I walk along the beach.
I squidge my toes in the hot summer sand.
I walk down to the waves,
And I feel the coolness of the ocean
As it passes over my bare feet.
I look down in the wet sand,
As the wave retreats,
And find a little sand crab
Trying to find its home.
I pick it up and place it on my palm.
It walks across and falls down.
Down into another bright blue wave,
A wave washing over my bare feet.
This time it makes its way home.
I walk a little farther into the surf.
This time I find a seashell.
On one side it’s a dull white.
On the other it’s a bright gold.
It Almost looks as if it was painted.
I clean it in a wave running over my bare feet.
I walk out farther and what do I see?
I see a black stone.
It has been perfectly smoothed.
The sands floating in the ocean
Have done their job well.
I walk out farther and see something shining.
It is about to be completely buried by the harsh Ocean sands.
As another wave comes to roll over my bare feet,
I pick it up to find a piece of turquoise sea glass.
A rare find in my small town, Huntington Beach.
Yet another treasure I find in the sea,
A treasure I find in the sand,
The sand of a warm summer’s day,
As a wave washes over my bare feet.
