The Little White Riding Hood

I woke up and my first thought was about my grandmother. I had to take her some food. I stretched myself and grabbed the basket in which there were the strawberries I had picked the day before.
While I was putting on my white hood, I looked at the flowered garden. I passed the gates and came upon the path through the forest. The sky was grey and it was cold, my hands were freezing in my pockets but I had to carry on.
On my way i found some beautiful yellow flowers I wanted to take for my grandmother. But when I picked one of them it instantly faded in my hand. I was puzzled, I looked around but everything seemed normal. I tried to pick another flower but it faded too. I gave up and stood up to go on my way.

I was almost at my grandmother’s house when I saw a white shape caming out of the bushes on the left side of the road. As this shape got closer to me, I reconized him. He was a friend of mine, a big white -almost translucent- wolf. He stopped right in front of me.

«You’re going to your grandmorther’s, aren’t you ? » he asked me.

«Indeed, I took some fruits for her. » I answered.

«I hope she’ll be fine today. » He said, before going back to the forest.

I finally saw my grandmother’s house. It was as damaged as usual. I entered silently and stood quiet in the entrance. She was sitting on an old chair, one of thoose which creaks anytime you move.
From where I was, I only saw her back. She looked very tired and way too thin. She was holding my old red hood I used to wore some month ago. She was brushing it with her thumb while I heard her sob. I get closer and saw she had in front of her a picture of me. I heard her whisper to herself while she was squeezing my hood tightly.

« I’m so so sorry Elizabeth » She murmured before she bursted into tears.

I put my cold little hand on hers and, even if I knew she wasn’t going to hear me, I talked to her.

«Please, It’s not your fault, you tried your best and I know it. Take care of yourself, I lov-»She cut me off and carried on her monologue.

«I knew he was violent, I knew it ! Why did I let you with him ! I could have taken you with me. I .. » her voice broke as she was speaking.

I put my hands on my eyes, It was too hard for me to watch her like that. However I was still seeing her. I stayed here a long time, not brave enough to do anything. A noise behind me got me off of my state. It came from the entrance, I turned myself to face the door and saw my canine friend.

« I think we should go back home now, It’s getting dark.» He said.

« You’re right.» I answered after a sigh.

I kissed my grandmother’s soaked cheek. And I put my basket next to all the baskets I already had given her, I knew she was not going to see it, but it was the least i could do.
We passed through the door and went back to the cemetery.
