Like a velvet blanket

The dark sky hangs

Suspended by glowing stars

Pinprick windows into heaven

Like a soft breath

The night breeze blows

Wrapping the world

In it's silent caress

Like a spotlight

The moon beams down

Illuminating the world's stage

With vivid shadows

Like the wilderness

It is ruthless, unbroken, remote

Stunningly beautiful

And not easily tamed.

Like an old friend

The darkness teases

Showing only playful glimpses

Of that which it hides

Like a lullaby

The wind and stars sing

A distant melody

Of tranquility and light.
