Hawaii Snorkling

So my family was supposed to go to Hawaii in two weeks, and we're obviously not going because of lovely little corona. So this one is based off a memory of last time we went to Hawaii, a few years ago. Hope you guys enjoy. This is one of the ones I'm most proud of.

 We stare across the sand,

My mom and I,

At the perfect glittering blue before us

The small waves beating rhythm

Into white sand.

We walked down the beach

Past a snoozing monk seal

And into the calm, iridescent sea

The waves, warm and clear,

Lap against us as we dive.

Under the blanket of blue

We find a city

Colors and textures sparkling

Fish dancing against vibrant coral

An alluring display of nature's architecture.

The swell rises and the sea turns darker

As an afternoon storm blows in

Waves threaten to pound us

And an unfortunate turtle

Into the sharp coral below.

The reef, beautiful before,

Now looked like bejeweled daggers

Accessorized with disgruntled pipefish.

The sea disagreed with our attempts to reach shore

But we soon felt sand beneath our toes again.

We turned back towards the sea

Now rough and stormy blue

The seal had slipped into the waves

And I wondered how this was the same beach

We had walked on an hour before.
