No Such Thing (Michael Tyger) (c)

No Such Thing

My heart it breaks

at the water's edge

of my Shiloh river

and my sunrise songs

All I knew

or ever said

runs the course

among those throngs

Once I drew a story

inside a wishing well

as we felt the glory

and broke the chains of hell

Once I knew

your inner chambers

deep and wide

and full of light

until the shadows

lashed out and

hid you from

my sight

The world

it walked me

past the many graves

of better men

and even slaves

who dreamed of things

I got to see

on the darkest of

my nights

There I ate

the bitter herbs

and drank a wine

that few imbibe

There my spirit

would come to learn

there is no such thing

as time
