Nicky McVie (Bill Temple)

This is a cleaned up version of my Poetic Novel, Nicky McVie.

It is one of the six collections I am currently filling, as part of the Poets Pub, Poem a Day Challenge.

For the unrestricted version of this story, check out my BillTemple1957 site.

(i)

it was a crappy little bar

in some crappy little town

I was sitting alone in the corner

choking cheap whiskey down

I simply don't give a damn anymore

I was at the end of my rope

my only luck had been bad luck

I simply, no longer, could cope

I just wanted to find some peace

a place to lay my head

just close my eyes and drift away

join the legions of the dead

I was 2/3 of the way through

pickling my soul in drink

my eyes were blurred and clouded

my mind unable to think

she walked up to my table

said, "I see you're here on your own.

Mind if I sit and join you."

I said, "Lady, just leave me alone."

she sat at my table anyway

and took my bottle in her hand

took a long, heavy drink

then said, "I am looking for a man."
