What's that noise..? You dismissed it and attempted to doze off again. There it was again, a faint vibrating noise. It continued as you aggressively covered your head with your pillow to drown it out. In a fit of silent anger, you threw off the covers and set out to find the source.

Your phones screen was bright and nearly blinded you, had you not approached it cautiously. Someone was calling you, though you didn't bother checking the Caller ID. For whatever reason it is, it better be good. "Hello.?.." you answered in an irritated whisper. You were at Toriel's house and would have hated to disturb her sleep. "h-hey, kid.. sorry to bother you.." You barely recognized the deep, male voice as Sans.

His voice was different, the laid back tone was impossible to detect.

"It's alright, what do you need? It's pretty early in the morning, y'know."
"yeah, im sorry. i need a favor from you though."
"I'm listening."
"can you.." He paused and took in a big breath. "..could you come over, please?"

You glanced at the wall and let out a sigh. It must have been pretty important if he was calling you at this time. He was your friend and he had helped you countless times.

"Alright. I'll be over in a few."
"thanks." He hung up quickly and you placed the phone back on the night stand. You tip toed to the bathroom and ran a comb through your H/C matted hair. Afterwards, you grabbed your phone, a jacket, and threw on some slippers. Without forgetting about Toriel, you quickly scribbled a note for your temporary departure and put it on your room door, then proceeded down the stairs.

You knew the temperatures that awaited you behind the huge purple doors, but you proceeded anyways. The cold nipped at your clothing forcing you to quicken your pace in fear you'd turn into a popsicle. You arrived at Sans' house in 5 minutes flat and barely knocked on the door as it opened. Sans looked pretty down and your heart sank at the sight.

You ran to hug him, interrupting whatever he was about to say to you. "So, what did you need?" You asked after finally backing up. "i can't sleep." He stated rather blankly. "What do you mean? Just close your eyes..ockets, and go to sleep." He shot you an aggravated glance. "ive been trying but i keep having these nightmares." He huffed.

You put your hands up as you meant no harm with your previous statement. "Well, you can tell me about them upstairs." You hung your jacket on the coat rack and followed Sans up to his room. He crawled into the bed and you joined, turning to face him once in. "So, what about 'em?"

"usually it starts off with another human falling down here. we give them hospitality, yet they always.. kill." He shuddered at the very word making you sense that this wasn't an average nightmare. "and they reset and do it again, and again. i can't do a thing to stop them. papyrus....." You could almost see the hopelessness radiating from him and you pulled him closer to you. He was tearing up into your shirt, but it didn't matter.

"they always target him, papyrus. he shows them mercy and befriends them. he's so naive and vulnerable. i couldn't bare to think of living without him, he'-" "Shh." You cut him off and sat up while placing his head in your lap. You looked down at him. "Sans, I want you to know that I will always be here for you and Papyrus." He sniffled and looked up at you.

"If you ever feel unsure about anyone, I will gladly protect Paps with my life." You said it confidently, and meant it too. "not with your life.. i couldn't bare to lose you as well." "That's not important. Just know, that I will do anything I can to prevent that." You made him look at you as you placed a hand on your chest.

"I promise."

Sans tackled you and squeezed you as he broke down into your shirt. "t-thank you. th-thank you s-so much.. y/n." He said in between sobs as you gently patted his back. You zoned out a bit until you realized his crying had stopped. You looked down and saw he was softly snoring on you. You smiled and gingerly picked him, placing him correctly in the bed. You joined him and hugged him tightly.

"I won't let anything happen to the two of you." You whispered as you closed your eyes.
