Jay sat by Jungwon's bedside, his elbows resting on his knees as he stared at the pale figure before him. The hospital room was silent save for the soft hum of machines monitoring Jungwon's vitals. He clutched Jungwon's hand tightly, his thumb brushing over the back of it in a soothing rhythm.
"You scared me, Wonnie," he murmured, his voice low and filled with emotion. "I've never been this scared in my life."
As he sat there, his thoughts churned. His father's threats hung heavily over him, poisoning everything. Jay knew now there was no way to protect Jungwon while keeping ties with his dad. He'd already decided he'd do whatever it took to shield Jungwon, even if it meant severing every last thread that connected him to his father.
But before he could dwell further, the door burst open, and a familiar figure rushed in.
"Jay!"
He turned to see his mother, elegant as always despite her disheveled appearance. Her designer coat was hastily thrown over her shoulders, and her perfectly styled hair was slightly out of place, a testament to her hurried journey.
"Mom?" Jay blinked, stunned.
She crossed the room in a few quick strides, her heels clicking against the floor. Her eyes were filled with worry as they flickered between Jay and Jungwon. "I heard what happened," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "Are you okay? Is he okay?"
Jay stood, his grip on Jungwon's hand reluctantly loosening. "He fainted. Stress and exhaustion, the doctors said. He'll be okay, but..." He swallowed hard, glancing at Jungwon's peaceful face. "I need to make sure he stays safe."
His mother's expression softened, and she placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I know your father is behind this," she said, her tone sharp with disdain. "He's always been controlling, but this... this is too far."
Jay's jaw tightened. "He threatened to ruin him, Mom. Jungwon's family, his friends, even me. He said he'd expose my past as a trainee and use it to hurt him."
His mother sighed, pulling him into a gentle embrace. "I should have fought harder for you when you were a child," she said, her voice heavy with regret. "But you don't have to fight him alone anymore, Jay. I'll help you. Whatever you decide to do, I'll stand by you."
Jay pulled back, his eyes meeting hers. "I've already decided. I'm cutting ties with him. Completely."
His mother smiled softly, pride evident in her eyes. "Good. It's about time you lived for yourself, Jay. Not for him."
As they spoke, a soft groan came from the bed. Both turned to see Jungwon stirring, his eyelids fluttering open. Jay immediately sat back down, leaning over him.
"Wonnie," Jay said softly, relief flooding his voice. "You're awake."
Jungwon blinked up at him, his voice weak but teasing. "Stop... calling me that..."
Jay laughed, his first genuine laugh in days, and gently brushed a stray strand of hair from Jungwon's forehead. "You scared the hell out of me, you know that?"
Jungwon's gaze shifted to Jay's mother, and he gave a small, confused smile. "Who...?"
Jay looked over his shoulder. "That's my mom," he explained. "She... came to help."
His mother stepped closer, her kind smile warming the room. "Nice to meet you, Jungwon. You must be someone very special to my son."
Jungwon's cheeks flushed, and he glanced away. "I... I don't know about that..."
Jay chuckled, his hand still holding Jungwon's. "You are, Wonnie. You really are."

As Jungwon started to recover, his energy slowly returned, and his color improved. Jay stayed by his side, fussing over him despite Jungwon's protests that he was fine. Meanwhile, Mrs. Park was on a mission of her own, boarding a flight to Washington, D.C., with one goal in mind: confronting her ex-husband.
The plane ride was long, but Mrs. Park's resolve never wavered. She had been quiet for far too long, allowing Mr. Park to dictate Jay's life. But after seeing the toll it was taking on her son and learning about the threats directed at Jungwon, she knew it was time to act.
When she arrived in Washington, she wasted no time heading straight to Mr. Park's office. Her tailored coat swayed as she strode into the building, heels clicking with authority. She was ushered into his office, where Mr. Park sat behind a massive mahogany desk, his expression a mix of surprise and irritation.
"Min-ji," he greeted coolly, leaning back in his chair. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
Mrs. Park didn't bother with pleasantries. "I'm here to talk about Jay. And Jungwon," she said firmly, placing her hands on his desk. "I know what you've been doing, and it ends now."
Mr. Park's expression darkened. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, don't play dumb," she snapped, her voice sharp and commanding. "You threatened that boy and his family, didn't you? All because you can't accept the fact that Jay isn't the perfect little puppet you wanted him to be."
Mr. Park stood, his face twisting in anger. "I'm doing what's best for him! Boys like him need guidance. He's throwing away everything for some... phase."
"A phase?" Mrs. Park's laugh was cold. "You always were good at deluding yourself. Let me remind you of something: Jay is not your property. He's a grown man with his own dreams and his own heart. And if you think you can bully him or anyone he loves into submission, you're sorely mistaken."
Mr. Park scowled. "And what do you plan to do about it?"
Mrs. Park leaned in, her voice low and cutting. "Don't forget who I am, Yong-ho. I may have stepped back from the business world, but my name still carries weight. You know the kind of connections I have. If you even think about hurting Jay or Jungwon again, I will destroy you. Professionally, socially, financially—everything. You'll have nothing left but your pride, and we both know how much that's worth."
For the first time, Mr. Park faltered. He opened his mouth to speak, but Mrs. Park held up a hand to stop him.
"Two more years," she said, her tone softening but still firm. "That's all you've got left, isn't it? Do you really want to spend them alienating your only son? Or do you want to try and fix the mess you've made of your relationship with him?"
Mr. Park stared at her, his jaw clenching and unclenching. Finally, he sank back into his chair, defeated. "You always did know how to hit where it hurts," he muttered.
Mrs. Park straightened, smoothing her coat. "I learned from the best," she said coolly. "Consider this your final warning, Yong-ho. Stay out of Jay's life, or I'll make sure you regret it."
With that, she turned and walked out, leaving Mr. Park alone with his thoughts.
Back in Seoul, Jay received a text from his mom. It was brief but enough to make him smile for the first time in days:
"It's handled. Be happy, my son. You deserve it."
