Chapter 49

I step out of Cassandra's place feeling nervous from head to toe. Lucian is waiting by the driveway, the soft thrumming of his glider fills the air and makes everything feel more real.

I take in a deep breath as I walk over to the passenger's side and then open the door. Lucian drove today, so there no driver, just the two of us. Alone.

On our first date.

I bite my lip hard wondering how the night will pan out. The idea of our date scares me just as much as meeting Mike and Joon does.

The cool air from inside hits my skin and Lucian immediately turns my way when I get in. I avoid his gaze and take a seat. The short light pink dress Cassandra forced me to wear rides up, exposing my thighs and I adjust it quickly.

"Hi," Lucian finally says after a long pause and I finally gather enough courage to face him.

I turn his way and the stunned look on his face makes me want to get out of the glider and run away.

"Do I look bad?" I can't help but ask.

Lucian just stares at me for what feels like an eternity and then he finally speaks.

"Quite the contrary. Forgive me for staring. I've never seen you so...made up," He stutters and I feel like killing Cassandra.

I knew she did too much. She forced me to wear lipstick, blush and she even drew dark lines around my eyes. He must think I look like one of those clowns at the theme park.

"Can you give me a minute? I'll just go and wash some of it off," I quickly say and he grabs my hand before I move.

"No, you are not touching a thing. I'm just surprised how different you look tonight, Aria. Trust me you are beautiful all the time, bare face and all but this...this just hits different. I like it," He says and then he releases my hand.

He pulls out of the driveway and we head down a path that leads to the city center. The ride to Onyx is silent and every once in a while I sneak a glance at Lucian only to find him doing the same.

"We're here," He says and then his gaze falls to my lips and I notice his grip tightens around the handles of the glider.

He quickly looks away when an attendant knocks on his window and then he gets out. My heart has already started it's frantic dance as I follow suit. I wonder if it will pop out of my chest by the end of tonight but when Lucian's hand locks around mine, it slows slightly in content.

We walk through the dark reflective glass that make up the entrance to Onyx and I am surprised to see the dim restaurant already filled with guests.

"I made a reservation," I tell Lucian and pull him towards the line of Plutonian's and some humans standing in front of a tall, lanky Plutonian who is reading a list. He must be the host I spoke to.

We approach him and he nearly jumps back in shock when he recognizes Lucian and immediately guides us to our table even though there was a line of guests waiting to be seated.

He leads us to a secluded table by the windows which I thought were previously fully booked.

"I think you made a mistake. Our table is supposed to be near the bar," I say to him.

"Oh yes that was the original arrangement, my apologies, we weren't aware that Master Lucian was dining with you. We know how Master Lucian loves the view by the window so we made sure he had the best view tonight."

"I already do," Lucian answers looking down at me and I'm so utterly thankful for the dim lighting because I'm sure my face must be even more red than the blush Cassandra flooded my cheeks with.

We walk over to our seats and sit down. I can feel the eyes of all the rooms occupants on us and it makes me feel self conscious. Lucian picks up the menu and I stare at him in slight annoyance. How can he be so oblivious to all the women in this restaurant staring at him?

And here he is with a human who can't even get a reservation right.

I huff in annoyance and pick up the menu. It doesn't matter. I'm here on a mission and this date is secondary. I sneak a look around pretending to study the decor but my eyes are searching for Matt's blonde head or Joon's dark hair.

I don't see Matt but my heart stills when I see Jade by the bar. There is no mistaking that black hair and beautiful dull green eyes from the party.

"Why do you look so annoyed?" Lucian interrupts my thoughts as he peers at me over the large menu.

"I'm not," I say and he casts me a pointed look. "Okay fine, I'm annoyed that my reservation wasn't good enough for you and the amount of people staring at you is unnerving."

His pale blue eyes pierce my dark ones and he suddenly leans forward and grabs my chair, dragging me to his side.

"Aria, why did you ask me out on a date tonight?"

My knees quiver slightly under his absolute attention and I open my mouth to speak but no words come out. His eyes fall to my lips and suddenly the tension between us is exponential. I think of what Cassandra said about taking charge and a small part of me wants to close the space between us and experience the feeling of his lips on mine.

"Hi, can I take your orders?" Both of us look up and I see Jade looking down at me.

Lucian orders for both of us and I can't help but feel that Jade is looking at me more than the person making the order. Does he have something to do with Mike and Joon?

Once he is done, Jade walks back and disappears through a set of black doors. After a few seconds he appears again at the bar and I just know I have to do something. The curiosity is killing me.

"I forgot to order a drink. Do you want something?" I ask Lucian and he shakes his head.

"I'll call the waiter."

"No..no it's fine. He's just there at the bar," I get up to leave but Lucian grabs my wrist, stopping me.

"Don't take too long. That human couldn't keep his eyes off you," His says irritably and I almost laugh because I felt that way about the Plutonian women just a few moments ago.

I nod and walk towards the bar once he releases me. Jade looks busy as he wipes down glasses and prepares drinks but he moves towards my direction subtly, as if he knew I was going there to talk to him.

"Can I have one Wicked Dream?" I put up my finger making it obvious that I am ordering just in case Lucian is staring at us.

Jade nods his head and begins mixing my drink immediately.

"Does Matt work here as well?" My voice comes out as a whisper.

"He works in the club behind. It's a part of Onyx as well." He hands me my drink and looks at me for a long moment.

If anybody were noticing they would think he was hitting on me but up close I see the same intensity that I saw in Matt. The revelation crawls up my spine and settles at the back of my neck in a buzz of anticipation.

How many of them are there?

I nod my head and take my drink back to my table where an annoyed looking Lucian is studying the menu like it is a piece of machinery.

"Are you sure you don't want anything to drink?" I take a seat and look at him.

"No, I'm fine," He finally looks up to face me again. "You still haven't told me why you invited me here."

I almost curse at his persistence.

"I don't know. I just felt like it. I enjoyed our outing at the theme park so much that I wanted to feel something like that again."

My answer softens him up slightly and after our meals and my undivided attention, he is back to his previous self.

"I saw a sign that says there's a club inside. Have you been there before?" I ask him and he nods.

"Only once but it is quite fun. I would love to see you dancing for the first time." He smiles at me cheekily.

"Let's do it," I say and soon we are in the bustling club behind the restaurant.

It is much more crowded in here, I wonder how I'm going to find Matt. Just as I was thinking about him I spot his striking blonde hair behind a long sleek table. He is mixing drinks just like Jade was.

"Some of my friends are here. I should go say hi," Lucian says into my ears.

I can't make out where the blaring music is coming from but the loud electronic tunes are booming along with the beats of my heart and the floor in the middle of the room is packed with gyrating bodies. I recognize people dancing against each other through the flashes of neon colored lights that liter the room.

Lucian leads us to a long sofa at the back of the room and introduces me to a bunch of very rich looking Plutonians. All of them are decked in heavy jewellry and accessories. I can't hear a thing as Lucian introduces me to them but I smile back as they greet me.

No one makes conversation with me. They are too busy taking turns to talk into Lucian's ears. One of them gestures for him to sit and I see that there is only space for one.

Lucian sits down and pulls me onto his lap where he places a firm hand over my leg, almost possessively.

"Are you alright?" Lucian whispers into my ear, his lips graze my skin sending shivers of pleasure down my spine.

He hands me a drink and I take a huge sip to calm myself.

"I'm fine," I answer. I am trying hard not to look at Matt who looked my way for a split second and then nodded his head ever so slightly before heading towards the washrooms.

"I need to use the washroom. Please excuse me for a moment," I say to Lucian and his hand tightens on the material of my dress.

"I'll take you."

I swallow my panic and try to refute but thankfully a beautifully dressed Plutonian girl sitting next to Lucian pulls him away from me.

"Let her go. She can't get lost here."

I have no doubt that she wants to use this opportunity to flirt with him and for the first time I am thankful for it.

A few more of his friends urge Lucian to relax and he finally lets go. I make my way to the washrooms and have to pass through the crowded dance floor to go there. I can feel Lucian's eyes on me the whole time but when I reach the washrooms I turn behind and squint in his direction.

The girl has finally got his attention and he is listening to what she has to say. I sigh in relief and look around for Matt.

"You came."

I hear a male voice and whip around to see him standing behind a corner, to the left of the entrance to the ladies.

"What is it you wanted to tell me?" I walk towards him so that we are both hidden from view and his eyes glint surreptitiously under the flashing lights.

"Follow me." He doesn't elaborate. He just turns around and walks to a door at the end of the small walkway. He doesn't even wait for me to follow.

I look around, making sure no one else is watching and then the curiosity in me pushes my feet towards him.

Ahhh she's finally going to meet them. What do you think is going to happen? Next update will be on Wed :) :) Oh ya and don't worry notes of your requests from the prev chapter have been taken :)
