Chapter Twenty Six
"So this is who you think has the moonstone?" Cass asked as she looked Eian up and down, assessing him and his posture. This boy did not look like a villain, he looked uncomfortable and frankly a little scared. She could see just how lost he was by his eyes frantically fluttering between her daughter and herself.
Raven nodded, her black hair was worn in a braid, Raven only wore her hair up when she was troubled, that's something only Cassandra knew about her daughter, Cass noted to herself to ask about it later. "He was born in Corona Palace and moved to New Old Corona after his birth, he moved back here only a week ago, the timeline adds up."
She sighed, appearances can be deceiving. Cass remembered what Varian looked like when they had first met, the fourteen-year-old was half her size and yet managed to kidnap the queen and overtake the kingdom, at one point he had almost killed her. "The timeline does work but-"
"I'm right here," the tall young adult said after a short-lived rush of courage flushed through him. Cass turned to him and immediately he felt the courage wash away.
Cass opened her mouth to say something, most likely go off at him but Raven spoke before her, her words as if shielding from the hell that is becoming Cassandra Ritter enemy, "Mum, he didn't know-"
"How do you know what?"
"Cece and Lex," surprisingly she didn't blush at Lex's name, Cass took note of that, "They interviewed him, to see if he knew anything about the moonstone, he didn't."
Eian nodded but only felt the dark glare of Cass' not-buying-it face. "Mum, I trust that Cece can spot a liar... She wants you to train him."
"What?!" Eian and Cass said at the same time. Eian was not aware of that arrangement, he came to the palace with a job, being Prince Flynn's manservant, he didn't want to be a part of any of this craziness.
"Mum, you are the only person in the seven kingdoms who has ever been in possession of the moondrop, you are the only person who can help Eian stop the black rocks before history repeats itself."
Eian shivered as he thought of the history of the moonstone, of what Cass did. The villages destroyed, the war... "What do I have to do to help?"
Though she didn't want to help Eian, she knew that this was her one chance to make up for her past actions, to redeem herself, properly redeem herself. "First we need to check if you are actually the moondrop. Summon a black rock."
He stared blankly, "I don't know how to..."
She sighed, "Raven, get your uncle V."

"So what do you think?" Cass asked after explaining the whole conversation she had just had with her daughter to Varian.
The thirty-six-year-old crossed his arms as he thought, he understood what Cass was saying but he also trusts Cece's judgement of character. "I say, you help him."
She groaned, that's what she thought she had to do, tell the boy the black rock incarnation but she didn't want him to have that and her to be right about him, she didn't want to be the reason for another Coronaian villain. "The past twenty years have been so peaceful, you know that if I tell him the incarnation, we might have to relive it all."
"I realised that..." their past was painful, he wasn't denying that but he also understood they shouldn't be making decisions out of fear and a guilty conscience. "You should help him."
"Raven! I know you're listening, tell Eian to come in," she spoke through the wooden door with a defeated sigh. Seconds later Raven and Eian walked through the door and into the freezing German air, "Raven, I don't want you to see this."
"But-"
"Raven," she raised her voice, Raven took her cue and left with a suffocated bit of anger. "Eian Wolfhard, I will tell you the incarnation but if you use your powers to do anything that hurts Corona, I will hurt you."
Eian couldn't find the words to agree, so he nodded, his mouth dry. Cass wrote down the words on a page on Varian's notebook, "Try to think about a small rock, nothing big, just something to clarify."
"Crescent high above," he started and so far, so good, there was no response.
"Evolving as you go," the snow-covered ground below shook, he swallowed, trying to control the lump in his throat, his fear.
"Raise what lies beneath," Varian and Cass gasp, though he couldn't see why, there were no black rocks, the incarnation wasn't working.
"And let the darkness grow," he felt powerful, Eian had never felt this way before.
"Let darkness grow..."
As Eian looked down, his whole world shattered, everything he ever thought he knew ( see what I did there? ) and everything he just learnt colliding and creating something... else. He wasn't Eian Wolfhard— he wasn't a twenty-year-old farm boy from New Old Corona- no.
He was the moonstone.
