Your protagonist is a kit that was abandoned. They are left in a cave where snakes are known to roam. They were left there with the hope of them dying.

However, when found by the snakes, they were surprisingly not hostile. The mother snake took in your protagonist and raised them along with her snakelets.

Later, when your protagonist is hunting, they are found by a patrol of their former clan, which they do not recognize at first, and your protagonist speaks to them in a snake language.

Weirded out, the cats dart back to the camp. Your protagonist is unsure of what they did wrong, until one day, the den is attacked by the patrol.
