The Murders/Attacks

Mistpelt was crouched down, waiting for a mouse to come out of hiding. She was on a hunting patrol, but wanted to catch this alone. It would be one of her first catches as a Star Soldier.

As the mouse came out, she pounced. It didn't have enough time to move, and the young she-cat killed the mouse. As she dug a hole to put the prey in, she was unaware of the creeping danger.

A cat jumped on her, covering her muzzle quickly with their paw. Mistpelt felt claws being dragged through her throat. She went limp after slight struggle.

The attacker then lifted her backleg, holding her body, and pulled. There was a small crack. The attacker blinked happily. "Perfect." There, on the russet and white she-cats hindleg, was a message:

To ALL of CrescentClan. THE WEAK MUST BE PURGED. THEY WILL NEVER BE ACCEPTED WITH HER IDEALS. Long Live Madeline.

"I think I smell prey. I'm going to go hunt," Foxburn announces, on a patrol. He didn't have any time to eat, which annoyed him. Now he's going to seize his chance to get a decent meal in.

Inconvenient for the cats around him? Definitely. But he's hungry, and that's enough of an excuse.

The mouse he spots seems like an easy target, but when he tries to sneak up on it, the tiny creature squeaks and starts running. The Star Soldier hisses, then goes after it.

He chases it for far too long then he should have, and now he's empty pawed. He has to go back to the patrol. Taking any longer will get him in trouble. How unfortunate.

The cat watching him doesn't think this situation is unfortunate, though. Actually...it's the perfect opportunity.

Striking fast, they tower over Foxburn, who yowls in shock. The murderers cat bites his throat, sinking their teeth deep inside the vulnerable spot. Blood pools out of a deadly wound.

"I do apologize, but your existence poisons this clan. You should have just stayed with your rogue parents...too bad Nightstar can't control her urges. But I'll let your siblings live. Star Guiders are too useful to throw away." The cat's voice is sweet, yet also devoid of real emotion. Like they are only slightly enjoying this.

Gurgling, the tom dies fast. His death wasn't nice, but it wasn't drawn out either. I guess that's the best you can ask for.

Poison is such an interesting weapon because it doesn't take skill. Well, actually, it takes a lot of skill. I worded that wrong.

It takes a...hidden skill. If you know what I mean.

When you train your battle skill, you're training with an intent to defend or hurt. When you train your healing skill, cats assume you're training to help cats, by default.

Herbs are a tricky subject. So, so amazing, they are. They heal. And they harm. I want to harm...not constantly. Just enough to make the clan worry. Then watch as they forget about me, and suddenly inject the fear right back into their hearts. A simple reminder, like when the chill of Leaffall creeps onto your pelt while you're enjoying Greenleaf. You remember that the harsh times are coming. That they are not far away; they are ever present.

Oh...I don't want to kill. The title of "murderer" is much too bland for a cat as interesting as me. I like "assaulter" a lot more. Or, even better, "poisoner." Too be considered a weapon even as I am, the exact opposite, is so incredibly grand that the idea makes me feel immensely powerful.

But I shouldn't wait anymore. I must act.

Hareflame is happy. Very happy. He's going to have kits soon, a family to accompany him. How nice for him.

I get to have the honors of spoiling it. To be the metaphorical Leaffall to his life. The remainder that danger is ever present, and even he is not immune to it.

I grab a rabbit. I stuff it with special herbs, the perfect cocktail that will protect my image. Just in case he catches a glimpse of me, he will never remember it. A thought ripped away from him, which is a thought that could get him justice. Too bad for him.

I set the rabbit near him and nudge him. Then I move away, an invisible cat, a background character. I'm pleased with myself, and also scared. I can't deny my fear.

Hareflame doesn't know who gave him the rabbit, but I hope he eats it
My chest fills with an amazing emotion as I wait. This emotion only grows more intense once he starts crying out, once the clan notices, once his mate screams for help, once everything shifts from peaceful to fearful. It's perfection. True perfection.

Who knows who I am? Maybe I'm a medicine cat. Maybe I'm a warrior whose been dabbling in a forbidden subject. Maybe I'm a simple Starling who is over their head by a mountain. Maybe everything I'm saying right now is to throw you off. But how will you ever know?

Read the fine print and figure it out. Everything comes easy for you, but not this. I refuse to give you this.
