She was jolted out of her sleep. Not even bothering to look at the time, the woman got up and rushed out the door. Opening a door to another room in the house, she saw a crying baby in a crib. She picked up her daughter and held the baby in her arms. She turned on the light in the nursery so the light illuminated her and the infant.

The baby was crying, in hopes that her daughter wouldn't wake up her husband.

"Shhh, it's okay." She sways her lightly, making the baby calm down. "There we go. Are you hungry?" the woman asked.

The baby put her hands on the woman. She smiled as she walked out of the room and downstairs. She went to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle and powdered formula.

After making the bottle, she sat on a chair and started feeding her daughter. She sighed in relief mentally, thank god that he didn't wake up complaining of a headache because he was hung over, then hitting her.

For the fourth time this week.

"Better, Elaris?" the woman asked her, smiling.

Elaris opened her big green eyes and stared at her mother. She reached her hands to grab her shirt. The woman just smiled.

"What's all that noise?!" someone yelled.

Oh no...

A man walked downstairs, he was still hungover. He staggered down the stairs. The baby and woman looked at the man who was Elaris' father.

"Diana! I told you to shut up, I have a headache!" the man said.

"I'm sorry, Eric. Elaris was crying and I—" she got cut off by Eric trying to hit her.

"Don't you ever wake me up again Diana! Do you hear me?!" he yelled.

Diana quickly nodded while holding Elaris. Before Eric went upstairs, he turned around. Glaring at her.

"Don't talk back to me!"

"I wasn't talking back!"

Eric punched her in the face. Her eye was stinging from the impact. She watched him go upstairs and go into their room. Diana went to Elaris' room and put her down. She fell asleep now. Diana walked to the bathroom and looked at her right eye in the mirror. It was black and swollen shut. She sighed and walked downstairs to the living room and fell asleep on the couch.

Diana woke up at six in the morning, she went into the kitchen and started on breakfast for her husband. She has been doing this for a year now, if she didn't do this for her husband, she was going to get a beating. Diana moved a strand of her blonde hair to her ear as she put his bacon and eggs on the table.

Diana could tell Elaris was awake because she could hear her making sounds from the nursery. She walked into the room and picked up her daughter.

"Hello sweetie, let's get you some breakfast." She said as Diana walked downstairs holding Elaris.

She gave Elaris her bottle and fed her. Diana looked around the house.

The house was two stories, hardwood flooring covered every square inch. A large flat-screen TV sat in the living room. Family photos of them were on the walls. A black couch sat in the middle of the room. Despite Eric's drinking habits, she still kept the house clean, under his 'request'

Diana heard him cuss under his breath.

Guess he's awake...

Eric staggered downstairs, not even saying 'good morning' to her as he sat at the table and ate his breakfast.

"Good morning, Eric."

The man glared at her and continued eating. "Give me a beer." Diana hurried to the fridge and handed him a can. Eric popped it open and drank it.

It's not even noon yet and he's starting to drink.... wonderful.

She sat across the table, opposite to him and ate her breakfast. Eric glared at his daughter, playing with his iPad. Diana saw this and her instincts kicked in. Elaris started crying, and she went to her and calmed her down. He glared at her and walked out of the room.

Diana held her and kissed her on the cheek, Elaris started to smile and laugh. "Hi!" she said Elaris giggled and clapped her hands.

I will protect you Elaris, no matter what.

Diana was going to head out to the park with Elaris. She saw their room door cracked open a little bit, and Eric was inside asleep. She grabbed her shoes and put them on. She picked up Elaris and went out the door.

The park wasn't very far and it was a beautiful day in Kerwan.

The park featured a sandbox, a swing set, a slide, and a basketball court. Diana sat in the sandbox with Elaris, she didn't have a shovel and pale so she used her hands to create 'sand castles' or, sand mountains, in her case.

A ship pulled in and they shut off the power. A man walked with his kid.

"Hi, can we play here?" he asked.

"Sure, you can." She said as the man and his son sat down next to them.

"What's your name?" Diana asked.

"My name is Aiden." He said, then he smiled at his son. "And this is my son, Daniel."

"Hi, this is Elaris and I'm Diana."

The man smiled. "She's adorable."

"Thank you," Diana said, looking at Elaris.

"You're welcome." He said, smiling.

"Do you live here?"

"Yeah, I do. Why?"

"Just asking. I live in Aleero City." Aiden said.

"Aleero City, I want to live there one day."

"Then move."

"I can't," Diana said, Aiden sat there concerned. Brushing his short\long hair to the side.

"May I ask why?"

"My husband, he won't let me."

"What's stopping you?"

"He's abusive, Aiden. He won't ever let me leave." She said.

"He punched me in the face last night." Aiden stared at her face and saw the large black eye that was on the right side of it. He felt bad.

"Diana, I suggest that you guys leave, file for divorce or get the Galactic Rangers involved."

"I can't"

"Why?"

"I'm scared that he might find me, Aiden. And when he does, he'll kill me."

Aiden hugged her tightly. She took it, he was worried about her, and he was worried about Elaris. Aiden feared that he was going to do something to her. Or worse, Elaris.

Her hands started to shake violently, the thought of Eric killing their child was terrifying to her. She shook her head, trying to get the image out of her mind and think of happy and positive thoughts.

Aiden looked at her and put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it'll be alright, trust me." He said.

Diana smiled and nodded.

She went home a few hours later, Eric sat on his chair, with a beer in his hand. He was watching a show, Eric sighed and still drank his beer.

"Hey, bitch! Are you going to make lunch yet?"

"Yes, but I need to put Elaris down." She said she was about to put her down for a nap. Then Eric grabbed her hair and yanked it.

"Let go of my hair!"

"You did this to me." He said, with a chilling tone in his voice. Diana could feel chills run down her body.

"W-what?"

"I didn't choose to be a dad!"

"I thought you were happy to be a father, Eric!"

"Well you thought wrong you BITCH!" he screamed.

"Eric, keep your voice down. You're going to wake up Elaris!"

"I don't care! All she ever does is cry!"

"She's a baby, she's just four months old!"

Eric slapped, then pushed her. She fell to the floor, crying.
