I immediately regretted all I did in the past minute. I should have left my hair down and worn a jacket over my top, because when I opened that door, all I saw were those blue-grey eyes.

Immediately I crossed my hands over my chest, praying he had not read what my shirt said.

"Yes?", I crocked, unable to properly move my mouth.

"Um, Mrs. Matthews?", he asked nervously. Then his smile turned wicked. I inwardly cringed.

Am I gonna die now?

"That's not me!", I giggled.

Everyone knows: YOU JUST DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FLIRT!

"Well", he said, taking me in top to bottom, "Clearly", he concluded. Then he started blinking furiously. Did he get something in his eye?

"Um, are you alright? Do you-", I started. And then it struck me.

"Now that is so immature", I said, crossly. Did this happen to Magnus as well?

With that he burst out laughing. His laughter was not like rippling water or what ever the stereotype books mention. It was a proper, cracked humane laugh that was contagious. I started giggling as well.

"Alec. Nice to meet you", he said extending his hand towards me, before bursting into another flurry of blinks. I shook my head. I took his hand and gave it a firm shake. His hand felt so warm...

"Eva. Please come in", I moved to let him in. I was about to show him into the hall when he just walked into it like it was his own house.

"Okay...", I said to myself and went into my parents' room.

"Mom, someone named Alec had come", I told her.

"Alec? Oh yes, yes", she exclaimed. I just looked at her.

"How come I didn't know new people came into the neighbourhood? That too people who moved into Candy Uncle's house?", I asked her accusingly.

What? I still like Candy Uncle! He made my childhood memorable.

"Oh Eva", Mom laughed, "You should consider having a social life in the neighbourhood", she waved her index finger at me.

"Whatever. He is waiting.", I groaned.

"I'm going!", and she left. I slowly walked behind her, wondering about my social life in the neighbourhood. The only person I actually, properly knew, other than Dad and Mom was Candy Uncle.

Though all I knew about him was that he had a daughter who ran away with her boyfriend to Japan and he lived with his cat, Neko. And he died.

I literally knew no body here.

As I walked into the hall, I noticed Mom and Alec talk like they've known each other since forever.

What?!

Then Dad came into the picture. And he pats Alec on his back like they were college buddies.

What is this life?!

"Um, Charlotte, who is Eva?", I heard Alec ask Mom in a hushed voice. Both Dad and Mom burst out laughing. I started chuckling as well, because who could restrain themselves in such a situation?

"She's our daughter", Dad managed between his laughing. Alec looked perplexed.

"Though I don't blame you for that doubt", Mom consoled an embarrassed Alec, "She's always in her room, shutting out the entire world", Mom always had that complaint. I learnt to ignore it, over time.

"That explains why I've never seen her", Alec said smiling at me. I just walked up to Mom.

"So, what's the news?", I asked her.

"Mrs. Haynes had called us over for dinner", she said, beaming at Alec. He gave a flattering smile to Mom. I waked closer to her.

"And am I supposed to know this Mrs. Haynes?", I whisper-asked her.

"Alec's Mom, darling!", she said, as if she was embarrassed by my question.

"How obvious", I made sure she heard the sarcasm in my tone, "Can I skip-", I started.

"Skip the dinner and lock yourself up in your room? No. That is absolutely out of question, lady. Have a life outside your room and try socialising rather than just dancing", Mom scolded.

Why, why, oh why?
Dancing is so much easier than socialising.
If only someone else understood...

"You dance?", Alec looked like a choking fish.

"Um, yes", I looked at him strangely.

No. No. No.
Eva, just NO.
You're assuming unlikely things.

But... does he dance as well?

Then I turned to Mom, "Please? I promise... I promise... That I'll do extra chores. Please?", I fake pouted. But Mom's face only turned darker.

"No, and that's it", Mom said with a voice of finality, "And change that hideous top of yours. 'Blink if you like me'. What is becoming of this generation?", she looked upwards.

"Let's go to your house, Alec. Eva may take some time", Mom told Alec.

"Oh no. I'm a gentleman. I escort the young ladies. Mother is waiting for you, so probably you can give her company", he said with a crooked grin. Mom just laughed and waked away with Dad.

"Someday Magnus Bane will make sure you wake up with antler horns and green skin!", I whisper-yelled after Mom. Alec next to me chuckled.

"TMI fan much?", he asked.

"You have no idea buddy", with that I went into my room.

"Can I come in or are you gonna change?", he asked from outside. I hesitated. I was gonna change in the room, but I can change in the bathroom.

"Come in", I announced. He walked in.
