Chapter Twenty Five

TW: Past Emotional Abuse
Remus grinned when he walked into fourth period and set eyes on his boyfriend. He made his way over to him quickly, sitting on his boyfriends desk. "Hey, Re," Dee said with a smile. "So, Dee, can I have your phone number?" Remus asked. Dee snorted. "We're already dating, you don't have to use pick up lines on me," Dee teased. "No, my dads got me a phone yesterday. Unless you don't want to give me your number," Remus said innocently, looking at Dee with wide puppy dog eyes. Dee melted at his expression. "Of course I will. Let me see your phone." Remus handed over his phone. Dee immediately made himself a contact and put in his number before handing the phone back. "There you go," Dee said, loving how excited Remus looked. "Thanks Dee," Remus said, sliding into his own seat. Dee just smiled back fondly. This boy would be the death of me. Not that he was complaining.

When Remus and Logan walked into their house after school, they were shocked to find Patton waiting for them by the door with a worried expression. "Is everything alright, my love?" Logan asked as he set down his bag. Patton nodded slowly, not convincing either of the boys. "What happened?" Remus asked softly. Patton took a breath before unlocking his phone and handing it to Logan. Logan looked over the screen and gasped. "What did they want?" Logan asked, his anger evident. "They want to meet Remus," Patton whispered. "No. I will not allow it," Logan stated firmly. "But Logan-" Patton started. "No, Patton. I don't want them anywhere near our son." Remus looked between the pair in confusion. He had never seen them fight before. "Logan, they apologized for everything. They've changed," Patton attempted to explain. "Patton, you have to realize that this could go horribly wrong," Logan pleaded. "It won't. It will be fine," Patton said, seemingly getting frustrated. "If he gets hurt in any way, I will not hesitate to force them out," Logan said, his voice frighteningly low. "Nothing is going to happen, Logan. They just want to meet our son." "Can somebody explain what is going on?" Remus asked, cringing at his forwardness. Both men looked up at the boy with slightly shocked expressions. Patton nodded shakily. "My parents want to meet you, bud," Patton said. Remus nodded in confusion. "Why is that a bad thing?" Remus asked. "Because they're-" Logan began to say. "Because we've had a little bit of a rocky past," Patton said, shooting a glare toward Logan. "I really don't think that this is a good idea," Logan said firmly. "They're my family, Logan. Just as much as you two are," Patton said angrily, turning and storming up the stairs.

"Does he get mean when he's mad?" Remus whispered. Logan looked at him with a softened expression. "No, not mean. Sure, we both can get a bit heated but it is only because we love and care about each other's wellbeing. We're never intentionally mean," Logan explained. "I don't understand why his parents wanting to meet me is so bad. Are you embarrassed of me?" Remus asked, willing himself not to cry. Logan gasped lightly as he wrapped his arms around the boy. "I could never be embarrassed of you, my love." Remus nodded as he hugged the man back. "Come sit with me, darling. I'll explain everything," Logan said as he led the boy over to the couch. Remus sat next to Logan, leaning into his side.

"Patton and his parents don't have a very good relationship with each other. They have always put him down and degraded him. Growing up, they would manipulate him and purposely hurt and insult him," Logan explained, his anger growing. "Why would the do that? He's so nice," Remus asked sadly. "Some people hurt others merely to make themselves feel better about themselves," Logan explained. "Like my parents," Remus mumbled. "Yes, like your parents. People hurt others for no reason, and it is sad but true. Patton's parents hurt him mentally and emotionally for almost his entire life. This only worsened when he told them that he was gay and that he had a boyfriend. They had yelled and insulted him, effectively breaking him down until he was shattered. I can still remember him coming to my house that night, sobbing in my arms for hours. I'll never forgive them for that," Logan finished, angry tears filling his eyes. "That's horrible," Remus muttered. "Indeed it is. That is why I don't want them near you. I watched them break one of my loves. I can't bare to watch them break my other." Remus turned and buried his face in Logan's shoulder, hugging him tightly. "I'll be okay. I think that you should let Patton have his parents over. Maybe they really have changed. And if they haven't, then Patton will know better after. But he'll never know if he doesn't let them try," Remus said softly as Logan clung to him. "You're right. You're absolutely right," Logan muttered. Remus pulled away from the hug, wiping away one of Logan's stray tears. "I'm going to go talk to Dad. Everything is going to be fine," Remus said as he stood. "What did we do to deserve you?" Logan asked. Remus just looked at Logan for a moment longer before turning and making his way up to his parents' room. His chest tightened as he heard the quiet cries behind the door. Remus pushed open the door slowly, his heart breaking at the sight of his dad crying so harshly. "Dad?" Remus asked tentatively. Patton looked up, quickly wiping at his cheeks. "H-hey, kiddo." Remus sat next to Patton on the bed. "It's okay. Logan explained everything to me, and I understand. If my father and mother would've apologized to me while I was still with them, I would've wanted them in my life despite everything that they had done. I understand what it feels like to just want to feel loved by your parents, even if they were mean to you.  You're not in the wrong as all," Remus said as Patton began crying harder. "When they come, no matter what happens, I'll support you. And even though he's upset right now, Papa will support you too. Everything is going to be okay," Remus said softly, grabbing Patton's hand. Patton gripped the boy's hand tightly as sobs wrecked his body. "Thank you so much," he whimpered out. "I think you and Papa should talk," Remus said quietly. Patton nodded. "I know we should. I just don't want to disappoint him," Patton whispered. "I couldn't be disappointed in you if I tried," Logan said from the door, effectively startling the pair. "L-Lo," Patton whimpered out. Logan rushed to his side, wrapping his arms around him tightly. "I'm here, my love. If bringing your parents here is what you need, then I'll support you," Logan whispered in Patton's ear, causing the man to cry harder. "I love you, Lo," Patton sobbed. "I love you too," Logan replied as he held the man close.

Remus watched from the side, his heart swelling at the love his parents had for each other.
