Chapter Thirty Four

Remus was shocked when he heard his dad's alarm go off. It was already morning? The bed shifted as Patton rolled over to turn of his alarm, flopping back into his back once the beeping stopped. Remus hesitated for a moment before whispering as softly as he could. "Dad?" Patton jumped slightly, unaware that either of the other men in the room were awake. "Hey, bud. I didn't mean to wake you up," Patton whispered back. "You didn't," Remus replied softly as he shifted his body to lean against Patton. "You didn't sleep?" Patton asked softly as he wrapped his arm around the boy. Remus shook his head, holding onto the man tightly. "Couldn't. Didn't want to have another nightmare." Patton let out a sigh and kissed his forehead. "You don't have to be up for school for another half hour. Do you want to try to get a little bit of sleep?" Patton asked the boy in his arms. When he shook his head again, Patton looked at him sadly. "That's okay, bud. Want to come help me make breakfast?" Patton grinned when Remus nodded. "Alright. First, we need to get up Logan. Would you like to do the honors?" Patton grinned mischievously, Remus' smile soon matching his. "Please don't be mad," Remus whispered toward Logan, but the amused smile on his face proved that he wasn't actually too worried. After another moment of silence, Remus pounced on the sleeping man. "Wake up, wake up, wake up!" Logan groaned and opened his eyes, a confused smirk on his face. "Remus, what on Earth are you doing?" Remus laid across his papa's body dramatically. "The sky's awake, so I'm awake, so we have to play!" Remus giggled at the end of his reference. Logan let out another loud groan before pushing the boy off of him playfully. "Well that's one way to wake up," he laughed softly as he stretched his body. Patton couldn't help the wide smile on his face. "That was so freaking cute," Patton mused, prompting Logan to sit up and shoot him a playful glare. "Sorry Papa," Remus managed through his giggles. "You're lucky I love you two," Logan stated before standing up and making his way into the bathroom to begin getting ready for the day. Patton turned back to his son as their giggling subsided. "How about you go get ready real quick and then come down stairs to help me out with breakfast," Patton suggest. Remus nodded, yawning loudly before moving off of the bed and back into his room, flushing slightly at the clean bed. Not the time to think about that. Remus took a breath before turning toward his closet, pulling out his gray sweater that he had bought with Logan for the first day of school. He smiled softly at the thought. After grabbing a pair of black ripped jeans, Remus changed quickly out of his pajamas. Once he was dressed, he pulled on his sneakers and finished getting ready before making his way downstairs.

Remus was greeted with the sight of his dad covered in jelly upon entering the kitchen. "What happened?" Remus giggled lightly. Patton looked at him with a sheepish expression. "I dropped the jar of Crofters," Patton admitted. "Better not tell Papa," Remus teased. "Oh no," Patton laughed loudly. "I can make breakfast while you clean up," Remus offered. "I couldn't ask that of you, kiddo," Patton responded. "It's not a problem, really. I make a mean omelette," Remus added smugly. "Alright, Gordon Ramsey. I'll get this cleaned up," Patton chided with a wide grin. Remus nodded before making his way to the fridge, pulling out the eggs. He dug through the cabinets in search of a pan, making an excited squeal upon finding it. "So freaking cute," Patton grinned. "Oh, go shower," Remus responded dramatically. Patton raised his hands in surrender before running upstairs to clean himself up.

Remus heated the pan on the stove before cracking the eggs, watching them simmer. Nearly fifteen minutes later, Remus had finished three omelettes and placed them onto three plates. He moved the plates over to the kitchen table, setting down the final dish as Logan entered the kitchen with a raised eyebrow. "You made breakfast?" he asked slightly in disbelief. "Yeah," Remus grinned. "I'm impressed," Logan responded as he walked over to grab a glass. "Would you like a drink, Re?" Logan asked as he opened the fridge to grab some orange juice for himself. "Uh, just water would be good," Remus responded. Logan nodded at the boy before filling a second glass with cold water, handing it to his son. Logan took a sip of his juice before narrowing his eyes at the boy. "So, Remus, you wouldn't happen to know why Patton threatened to 'physically fight me' if I looked at him before he got into the shower?" Remus nearly choked on his water. Images of the Crofter's covered man filled his mind. He laughed lightly but shook his head. "Nope. No idea," he replied through his laughs. "You are impossible," Logan shook his head, unable to suppress his grin. "You love me anyway," Remus grinned cheekily. "That I do," Logan replied genuinely, sipping on his juice as his son's cheeks turned bright red.

Patton rushed down the stairs a few moments later, grinning when he caught sight of his son's expression. "Sorry I took so long," Patton said as he took his seat at the table. "Not a problem, darling," Logan responded. Patton looked down at his plate and gasped slightly. "You made this, Re? It looks so good." Patton's words caused Remus' dissipating blush to reappear. "Yeah. It's cool if you guys don't like it, though. It won't hurt my feelings or anything." Yeah it would. Remus shook his head slightly to rid himself of the thought. He watched with bated breath as his parents each took a bite of their omelettes. Remus let out a breathless laugh when they both groaned at the taste. "This is so good," Patton praised before taking another large bite. "Seriously, this is amazing," Logan added. Remus grinned. "Thanks," he responded before digging into his own omelette.

Yeah, a lot of things had gone wrong lately. Between harsh parents, past memories, and unfortunate nightmares, Remus could've rightfully been cynical and furious with the world. But now, sharing this beautifully mundane moment with his parents, Remus felt nothing but pure love and happiness.
