Chapter Seven

When the sun showered the room in light the following morning, Remus' eyes fluttered open softly. He felt at ease and incredibly serene. He felt his eyes widened when he realized he had actually slept soundly. He thought over why this had occurred when the arm wrapped around him tightened slightly. Remus looked to his right, seeing a sleeping Patton. It was then that he was aware of the man curled into his side on his left. Logan. A small smile graced the boy's lips as he closed his eyes once more. After about twenty minutes of serenity, Remus felt Logan stir slightly, looking over to the man as his eyes cracked open. "Morning, Re," Logan said, his tired voice deep and slightly slurred. Remus chuckled under his breath. "Good morning, Logan." Logan smiled lightly, looking more relaxed than he'd ever looked in Remus' presence. Their soft conversation in addition to the light pouring through the window caused Patton to stir softly, letting out a quiet yawn as he opened his eyes. "Good morning, boys," he said softly. Logan just hummed in response. "How'd you sleep, buddy?" Patton asked the boy in his arms. "I actually slept, so really good," Remus chuckled, stopping immediately when neither of the other men joined in. "Do you usually not sleep, love?" Logan asked, waking up more than he previously had been. "Well..." Remus started. "It's okay, bud. We just want to help you," Patton said softly. "No... I don't sleep unless I absolutely have to," Remus said softly. "Because of the nightmares?" Patton asked. Remus just nodded, keeping his head down. "You did not experience any night terrors during your slumber in here, am I correct?" Logan asked as he reached out and grabbed the boy's hand, rubbing soothing circles on the back of it with his thumb. "You're right...I didn't," Remus whispered. "You know you're more than welcome to stay in here with us whenever you want, right?" Patton asked with a hint of worry in his tone. "I wouldn't want to be a bother," Remus said quickly. "You would be no bother at all. If you ever desire to sleep in here with us, then you are more than welcome to. Okay?" Logan offered in a soothing tone. Remus nodded, allowing himself to relax into Patton's arms once more, holding tightly to Logan's hand. "Come along, you two. We wouldn't want to waste the day away," Logan said sternly, completely contrasting with the fond grin on his face. Patton groaned in the most over frantic fashion that Remus had ever heard, causing him to let out an incredibly loud giggle. "Oh my goodness," Patton said suddenly. "What is it?" Remus asked, immediately on alert. "That was just about the cutest laugh I've ever heard." Remus felt his face flush. "Agreed. That was objectively adorable," Logan added on. "Stop," Remus said, hiding under the covers. "Aw, were just messing with you kiddo. Come on, I'll go make us some breakfast," Patton offered as he stood from the bed and stretched his body. Soon, Logan and Remus followed suite, both stepping out of the bed. Remus whined at the loss of heat. "What's wrong kiddo? You okay?" Patton asked, his face conveying his immediate worry. Remus chuckled at his reaction. "Cold," He said with a sheepish grin. "You are almost as dramatic as Patton," Logan mused, turning back to the bed and grabbing one of the blankets. "Here you are," Logan stated, handing Remus the blanket. "Thank you sir," Remus said, mentally scolding himself for slipping back into his old habit. "Oh goodness no, please never call me sir. It makes me feel older than I am." Remus nodded, relieved that they hadn't reacted worse at his minor slip up.

The three left the room and descended the stairs slowly, their tiredness still lingering slightly. "Why don't you two go sit on the couch? I'll come get you when I finish breakfast," Patton offered. The two boys nodded, thanking the man as they made their way over to the couch. Logan leaned back into the soft material and stretched his arms above his head, letting out a large yawn. Remus simply curled up into a tiny ball, almost completely wrapped up in the blanket. "What on Earth are you doing, Remus?" Remus giggled softly. "I'm cold, don't make fun of me," he said with a teasing tone in his voice. Logan held up his hands in surrender. Soon, Patton was yelling from the kitchen that the food was ready. The trio sat at the table, their plates filled with eggs and toast. "Are you sure I can eat again? I don't want to be greedy," Remus asked softly. "Eat as much as you want, Re," Patton said with a bright yet sympathetic smile. "Thank you so much," Remus said with a grin before beginning to eat his food rather quickly. "Wait, Remus," Logan said as he reached for his toast. The boy looked up quickly upon hearing his name. "No cause for alarm, I assure you. I simply wanted to ask you a question. Have you ever had the pleasure to experience the delicacy that is Crofters?" Logan asked with a grin. "What's Crofters?" Remus asked, prompting an over exaggerated gasp. "And you say we're the dramatic ones," Patton giggled under his breath. "Crofters is only the best jam known to man!" Logan screeched out as Remus giggled loudly. "Okay, okay, I'll try your precious jelly," Remus said through his laughter. Logan passed the jar to the boy, who opened it carefully and spread a decent amount on his previously plain toast. Remus looked up at the two men watching him intently, giving them an odd look before taking a bite of his toast. His eyes widened as he tasted the sweet substance. Patton giggled. "Do you like it buddy?" Remus nodded quickly, scarfing down his toast. "Well he's definitely your son," Patton mused, looking toward Logan. Remus looked up at the pair, swallowing the toast in his mouth. "You think of me as your son?" Logan nodded. "Of course. We adopted you, so-" "So you're my guardians," Remus interrupted. "But I'm just some kid. You really think of me as your son?" Logan smiled softly. "Yes. Yes I do." "Me too!" Patton exclaimed. Remus couldn't stop himself from smiling. "Thank you. For everything." "It is no problem at all, Remus," Logan replied. "We'd do anything for you kiddo!" Patton added.

Remus was a grinning mess for the rest of breakfast.
