Chapter Fifty One

Logan grinned widely as Remus walked into his classroom at the end of the school day. He couldn't help it, he was incredibly proud of his son for returning to school after everything that had happened to him. "Hey Papa," Remus greeted as he sat on top of one of the desks. "Hello, love. How was your day?" Logan asked as he packed away his things. "It was really good! I'm glad to be back," Remus admitted. "I'm so glad to hear that," Logan said genuinely. The pair then began walking out to their car, both of them discussing how Remus' first day back had gone. Finally, Logan asked the dreaded question.

"How was it seeing Dee again?"

Remus shrugged. "Nothing extraordinary?" Logan asked. "He has a boyfriend. And his name isn't actually Dee," Remus said, causing Logan to choke on his spit. "That seems pretty extraordinary," he said as he regained his composure. Remus shrugged again. "I mean it sucks, but I'm really not that bothered by it. I know I should be, but I'm just kind of over it." Logan looked at him with a chuckle. "You sound exactly like me. I'm glad to hear you're not too upset." Remus smirked. "Honestly, I'm more baffled than anything. Like, can you believe his name isn't really Dee? It's Janus! Who even lies about that?" Remus ranted. "That is very strange, why would he deem that necessary?" Logan responded, immediately matching his son's energy. "And he already has a new boyfriend! I wasn't even gone that long, how much could really happen in that time?" Remus continued, his voice showing how in awe he was.

"I believe the word to describe him is, as the kids say, 'extra'."

Remus snorted. "Was that the correct usage?" Logan asked. Remus grinned. "Technically, yeah." The look of pride on Logan's face was enough to pull a giggle out of Remus and prompt him to tease his Papa the whole way home.

Upon arriving home, Remus immediately told his Dad everything about what had happened with "Dee". Patton listened in shock, unable to believe that the sweet boy from before could've behaved like this. "I just can't believe it. That doesn't sound like Dee at all," Patton said as he ran his fingers through his curls. "Right? It's just so out of the ordinary," Logan added, completely invested in the drama. "I have no clue why anything of this happened, but honestly, I don't really care," Remus responded with a shrug. "What do you mean, kiddo?" Patton asked with slight concern. One of the main qualities of Remus' personality was how much he cared about everything. "I mean, of course I'm hurt. He did something to me that wasn't nice, it only makes sense. But I'm just over it. I'm not giving him the power to upset or really hurt me. I'm not giving him the satisfaction," Remus explained. In that moment, the parents were able to see just how much Remus had grown since they first adopted him. He was putting himself first and taking care of his needs without feeling selfish, and Patton and Logan were so incredibly proud of him. "That's actually really good, buddy. As long as you're not repressing how you feel, there is nothing wrong with being done with a situation. Especially if it's hurting you," Patton assured. Remus nodded in understanding. "Other than that, was the rest of your day good?" Patton asked. "Yeah! I had a really good day." Patton watched him carefully for a moment before continuing. "No problems at all? Nobody giving you any trouble?" Remus shook his head, turning toward his dad. "No, nobody was messing with me. It really was a totally normal day." Patton let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "Okay, good. I know you're more than capable of taking care of yourself, but I just can't stand when those kids are mean to you," Patton explained. Remus smiled softly. "I appreciate it. And I promise Ill let you know if anything happens." Patton nodded, looking at his kid fondly as he brushed his fingers through the boys hair lovingly. After a content moment, Remus broke the silence.

"Papa used the word 'extra' today. Like...in the slang way."

Remus couldn't hold in his laugh at Patton's shocked expression. "Oh my goodness, I have never been so proud in my life," Patton teased before peppering dramatic kisses all over his husband's face. "It really was not all that impressive," Logan responded, flushed and embarrassed from all the attention. Remus snorted, thoroughly enjoying the chaos that he had caused. "You'll pay for this," Logan said with a mock-serious tone. And for once, Remus wasn't scared by that tone at all. He knew his Papa wouldn't do anything to hurt him. What was even better, though, was that he didn't have to remind himself of that this time. He just knew.

"Oh, I'm sure that I will," Remus responded sarcastically. "You two will be the death of me," Logan said seriously, although the ghost of a grin on his face was enough to give him away. "But you love us!" Patton exclaimed. Logan rolled his eyes. "You have no proof of that," he grumbled. "God, Papa, you don't have to be so extra," Remus teased.

Remus couldn't help the flow of laughter that fell out of his mouth as he sprinted out of the room, his Papa right on his tail.
