Chapter 9- Vanoss P.O.V
I wasn't really paying attention to the others, the show was too entertaining. The family just got back together and was fighting a demon.
"Woah" I looked at Brian and saw him staring at Jonathan. I smiled as more heads turned towards Jonathan until all of them were looking at him. "Why is he staring at me?" I chuckled and looked at Jonathan, confirming for myself that he was staring at Brian.
"Oh that's why he wears the mask." Craig's head popped up from the arm of the couch and he looked amazed at seeing Jonathan's face. Lui hit David's shoulder and Jonathan looked around at everyone looking embarrassed and confused. I pulled Jonathan a bit closer to me and he looked at me. His face was tinted pink and he chuckled nervously.
"This is awkward." Brock laughed and shortly everyone was laughing. It was a moment I knew I'd miss forever, but I didn't let the knowledge get to me. I laughed with them, and secretly took a photo of my gang having fun.
We devolved into talking, and the longer we talked the louder we got. I noticed Jonathan's mother had come downstairs once or twice but she didn't interact with us until the third time. We were still loudly talking and she came downstairs again with some board games and cards. She set them down on the floor in front of Marcel, gaining everyone's attention and crossed her arms.
"Now, I don't mind if you boys are noisy but my favorite show is on and I can barely hear it. So here are some games to keep you all busy, help yourself to anything in the kitchen, just keep it down, ok?" Everyone agreed and I smiled and nodded at her. She smiled back and walked back upstairs hurriedly. David snorted and turned to Jonathan.
"Your mom's hot." I laughed in shock while everyone else jumped on questioning David. Marcel looked through the board games and held up Monopoly.
"We are obligated to play this now."
The rest of the night went about as wildly as you would expect, and we didn't end up sleeping until four in the morning. It was a nice break, but the next day I got a call.
I woke up next to Jonathan to my phone ringing from somewhere under me. Apparently I'd fallen asleep without plugging it in, because when I found it it was at 18%. The call was from Ohm, so I climbed out of bed and snuck out of the house as quietly as I could before answering the call outside.
"Hello?" I didn't know what exactly to expect. Ohm preferred to text over calling, so I could only assume it was something serious. I heard quiet sniffling from the other side of the line.
"Uhm, Vanoss?" I stopped breathing for a second as my mind and heart began to race. He sounded horrible, like he'd been crying for the past few hours and had yet to calm down.
"What's wrong Ohm? Talk to me." I gave Ohm another minute to calm down, giving him small reassurances every now and again to help him relax more. Ohm wasn't usually the emotional type, but everything going on recently it wasn't that much of a surprise.
"My parents uhm, met Bryce." I winced and shoved my hand in my pants pocket, kicking the grass. Ohm's parents were extremely homophobic, to the point where they almost didn't accept money from the gang because they thought it was some gay cult or whatever it was they said. "They said that, with everything happening, that we're leaving the state. They're sending me to some conversion camp when we move into our new house." What a way to thank the gang for all the help they gave them, huh?
"Shit, man that's awful. Fuck, if everything wasn't going on right now you know I'd help you out." Ohm sniffled again and I held my breath, listening closely to figure out Ohm's current state.
"I know, Vanoss. I just, I figured I'd tell you now so it wouldn't be a surprise when I disappear." I took a deep breath and sat on the porch.
"Are you safe right now?" There was a quiet agreement on the other side of the line, and I took a deep breath of relief. "Ok, I'll get you out of there eventually Ohm. Just talk to me, ok? I'm gonna come see you and make sure you're ok." I stood and began walking towards Ohm's house, keeping him talking the entire walk over. I would make sure he'd be ok today, and eventually there'd be more I could help with, but for now I promised him I wouldn't tell the gang until he was comfortable and checked in on him at home and got into a small argument with his parents. The least they could do was let him keep his phone and say goodbye when he was ready, but he had two weeks left before they'd get on a plane and he had to say goodbye to everyone here before then. It was shit, and he shouldn't have agreed, but I didn't have control over him or his parents, and I could only do so much.
