I woke up to the most annoying sound known to man, my alarm clock. I turned it off and looked at my calendar and sighed. Today was my first day at my new high school. The school year started a while ago, which meant everyone knew each other already and I'd have to catch up.
I had just moved here a month ago with my mom and I already hated it here. People constantly made fun of me for the big scar on my cheek the first month, so I wore an old Jason mask to cover my face.
I got ready for school and walked downstairs. My mom was fast asleep on the couch, blanket half on her half on the floor, drooling into the arm of the couch. She probably worked too late again and didn't want to wake me by going upstairs. I wished she'd stop going out of her way for me. I wrote a note saying I took the bus to school and grabbed my mask. I re-covered my mom in her blanket and put the mask on as I walked outside. I began walking to school. I had no intention of going on the bus seeming as I'd hate to make anyone sit next to me.
When I got to the school and got my schedule I saw someone out of the corner of my eyes. A tall man with black hair and a red jacket. He was kind of cute, but he was fliting with some blond chick so I continued walking until I heard the bell ring. That's when I realized, I had no clue where I was going.
I looked at my schedule and saw there was 10 minutes between each class to get to the next. Meaning I had 7 minutes left to find the room in this huge building with no instructions. I had to find the English room quick. I walked blindly for about 5 minutes when I stopped and sighed, sitting down against some lockers. I put my head in my hands hiding myself, trying to get my frustration under control before I gave up and just didn't go. I had to do it, for mom, she put way too much into me just for me to ruin it all because I got lost.
I saw feet stop in front of me and heard a calming voice ask "You ok?". I looked up and saw the guy with the black hair looking at me, a bit of concern in his eyes. I didn't know if I should trust the concern was genuine, so I gave a small nod and he smiled softly. I really wanted to punch him in the balls.
"Do you need help up?" He asked. I nodded my head and he reached for my hand. He helped me stand and asked "What class are you supposed to be in?" I didn't necessarily want to talk to him, but it was clear he wasn't new to the school, and it wouldn't hurt me to get help. Besides, if approaching lost new kids and helping them was his thing, maybe that's why he was talking to the girl. I could still have a chance.
"English, with Mrs. Peer" "Come on, I'll take you" He said as he took my hand and began walking. I stumbled at first but copied his pace and walked beside him. His confidence practically shone through every sure step he took, and I felt kind of jealous.
"What about you? You'll miss class" he kept walking and looked at me. He smiled at me again and I cracked my knuckles nervously. "I wouldn't be too worried about that if I were you."
I began wondering on what he meant as we reached the room. He stopped at the door and let go of my hand. "Here's your class, or would you rather come with me?" I could feel my heartbeat in my chest as I wondered of all the places he would bring me to. I didn't suspect it was anywhere good. He seemed like the delinquent type, but technically judging a book by it's cover is wrong and I should go with him to get to know him more.
"Where would you go?" He crossed his arms and shrugged. "I cant say unless you come" I made the quick decision to just go to my class and ignore him. I didn't even know his name. Maybe later though, if he introduced himself a bit more. "No thanks, not right now at least." He shrugged and walked off.
I watched him walking away when a hand grabbed my shoulder and yanked me inside the room. I looked to see a young lady with brown hair tied in a bun and cold green eyes holding my shoulder. "You're late."
I assumed she was the teacher. I stood silent looking around to see other students watching us. "Don't let it happen again. Also stay away from that pest."
"Sorry ma'am, I got lost and he helped me." I said in a quiet voice. I wasn't a fan of confrontation, and how close she was to me sat wrong and heavy in my chest.
"So you're the new kid huh? Well, just know he's nothing but trouble. I'll give you detention if I see you around him ever again." She walked over to the front of the room and I looked over at the others watching her now, very few looking away. "Alright class we have a new student." She said motioning for me to go to her. She asked my name.
"Jonathan" She looked at the class and said "You will treat Jonathan here with respect. Anybody to do otherwise will speak to me." The class nodded, almost in unison. The teacher looked around the classroom and spoke "Luke, you will tutor Jonathan here. Make sure he stays away from that Vanoss guy and gets to his classes. I will send an email to your teachers so you can do so without consequences. Luke raise your hand so Jonathan will know who you are." A tall guy with black hair and a black shirt raised his hand. He didn't look as cute as "Vanoss", but he wasn't ugly either. I was not looking forward to figuring out who was gay or not.
"Jonathan go sit by Luke." I walked over to him and sat down. The teacher began speaking and Luke introduced himself, asking if I had any questions. Should he be talking while she teaches?
Truth is, I had a lot. I narrowed it down to one though, so I wouldn't seem too curious. "Who's Vanoss?" "Nobody knows. He told everyone to call him that but everyone knows it's not his real name. Even his friends don't know it." I furrowed my eyebrows and moved closer to Luke.
"He has friends?" Luke just laughed. "You know Jonathan, I like you. Careful with that talk though, the man's dangerous. You don't know who's in his group and who isn't." I nodded and took a deep breath. "Is anyone here gay?" Luke's eyebrows shot up and he stared at me for a second before he shook himself out of his stupor and scratched the small bit of stubble on his chin.
"School's infested with them. I'm bi, so like don't think I'm being offensive when I say that." Ok, so Luke was officially on the table. That worked out great for me. "I'm gay." Luke smiled supportively and hummed. The teacher looked at us with a curious expression. I began to panic but she smiled and went back to teaching, so I guessed it was fine. "I do have a question for you though" Luke was looking at me, curiosity coating his face.
"What's with the creepy ass mask?" I paused, feeling uncomfortable. Luckily for me, the teacher overheard.
"Luke I hope that wasn't you." I looked over at the teacher who was glaring at Luke. I felt lucky she decided to intervene, because I really wouldn't have an answer for that. How do you explain you're self conscious over a scar you got on the most traumatizing day of your life casually?
"What do you mean ma'am?" Luke looked as though he was faking his confusion, but his voice was perfectly disguised.
"You're not to be disrespectful towards Jonathan, he has the mask on for a reason. Also watch your language." "Yes ma'am" The teacher went back to looking at something on her computer and I just looked at Luke, coming close to laughing.
I held my breath so I wouldn't laugh, I didn't want anyone to hear it. "Sorry man, didn't mean to pry." I shrugged and rubbed my arm. It wasn't the biggest deal.
Luke and I talked during the entire class, and for being an assigned tutor I found it really easy to talk to him. We had to split off for second period, but he dropped me off at my class and said he'd meet me back there for lunch so I wasn't too concerned. The class was poetry, which to my surprise I hated more than any other class on my schedule. I saw a kid with white hair poking the kid next to him with a pencil. The kid had a lot of rings on and shoulder length bleached hair. He didn't seem to mind the other one. I went back to paying attention and the class was over before I knew it.

Not many changes so far but yay longer and better! And if you're a new reader hi trust me this is better than the original. Updates every other day because school and shit. Also this is the only authors note for a majority of the book so dw
editing it again, that was shit and I'm disturbed at how proud of it I was. All action and dialogue and no inner thoughts for a pov book? disgusting. it's better now. also my new device doesn't autocorrect my capitalization so deal with it in authors note ok byeeeee
