I got out of bed, rubbing sleep out of my eyes and pulled back the curtains. It was early, 4 AM to be precise, yet I was awake. So awake. Alex had said he was in New York? It would be 4 for him too. Why not give it a shot, I shrugged.

TurtlesandFlowers: Hey Alex, you're probably not awake.

LittleLion: Nope, I'm up. I have an essay to write for tomorrow.

TurtlesandFlowers: Wow, you left it till the last minute.

LittleLion: Of course not! I've been at it since I got it.

TurtlesandFlowers: When did you get It?

LittleLion: Two days ago.

TurtlesandFLowers: You've been at it for two days?

LittleLion: More or less.

TurtlesandFlowers: Wow, how long does it take you to write an essay?

LittleLion: Not long.

TurtlesandFlowers: Your sending mixed messages Alex.

I sat down on my mattress, light from my phone illuminating the bedsheets and the drawers of my shelf. I was still in my room at my dad's house, because school hadn't started yet so I couldn't stay in my dorm. I picked up Baguette and held him to my chest and planted a kiss on his pale shell. Then I remembered.

TurtlesandFlowers: ALEX!

LittleLion: Calm down, what is it?

TurtlesandFlowers: I FOUND A NEW TUTLE AT THE PET STORE AND MY DAD SAID I COULD GET THE TURTLE WHEN COLLEGE STARTED AGAIN!!!!

LittleLion: That's great! What are you going to call it?

TurtlesandFlowers: Him. It's a male.

LittleLion: Ok, what are you going to call him?

TurtlesandFlowers: I was thinking Lin what do u think?

LittleLion:  You need to put a comma in between 'Lin' and 'what' also; *you.

TurtlesandFlowers: I'm getting an online grammar lesson at 4 AM

LittleLion: You brought it upon yourself.

TurtlesandFlowers: Yeah yeah. Alex, what do you think of the name?

LittleLion: Lin? It's a good name. It's also the name of a founding father and the first treasury secretary.

TurtlesandFlowers: Yeah I know. I'm well aware of that. That's actually the point.

LittleLion: Well then have fun with your lawyer turtle.

I laughed and rubbed Baguette's shell as he crawled over the bed.

TurtlesandFlowers: I plan on having fun with my lawyer turtle

LittleLion: Can you remake the scene in Legally Blonde with your lawyer turtle as Emmet or something?

TurtlesandFlowers: Yesssssss. Shelley can be Elle.

LittleLion: And Baguette (is that his name?) is Mr. Salvatore!

TurtlesandFlowers: That's an amazing idea I need to make this. That's his name btw, you got it right.

LittleLion: Just to be clear, we're talking about the scene where Emmet pushes Salvatore into admitting he's gay right?

TurtlesandFlowers: Of course!

LittleLion: I'm glad to have found another Legally Blonde fan.

TurtlesandFlowers: Honestly I think it's the best movie ever, lots of my family are blondes and I'm the brunette... anyways.

LittleLion: EMMET.

TurtlesandFlowers: lol

LittleLion: Can you send me pics of the lawyer turtle?

TurtlesandFlowers: It's 4 AM Alex, the pet store isn't open.

LittleLion: I stay up too much. Not enough sleep.

TurtlesandFlowers: I can drive up to New York and force a pillow over your head.

LittleLion: In one night? From South Carolina?

TurtlesandFlowers: Do not doubt my driving skills.

LittleLion: What kind of car do you have?

TurtlesandFlowers: Prius. Why?

LittleLion: Fancy. Ok.

TurtlesandFlowers: ?

LittleLion: It takes approximately 11 hours to reach New York from South Carolina by car. Generally Priuses can go 62 mph. There are 992 km between SC and NY by bird's flight. My first class is at 9 it's now 4:28 up in New York so therefore also down where you live. You aren't going to make it Mr. Laurens, I'm sorry.

TurtlesandFlowers: Wow. Someone did their homework.

LittleLion: I'm currently doing homework, so yeah.

TurtlesandFlowers: At 4:30?

LittleLion: *4:29

LittleLion: And yes, yes I am.

TurtlesandFlowers: Alex, get some sleep.

LittleLion: We just established that you literally cannot drive here before my classes.

TurtlesandFlowers: Yes, but I can give you advice, friend to friend.

LittleLion: Curse you and your friendship morals.

TurtlesandFlowers: You just admitted I'm your friend.

LittleLion: If you don't mind me asking, what's your sexuality?

LittleLion: Unless you don't want to share, then that's fine.

TurtlesandFlowers: No its fine. I'm gay.

LittleLion: Cool, I'm bi.

TurtlesandFlowers: Good to know.

LittleLion: And why would that be?

I was so glad he couldn't see a blush creep onto my cheeks and I pulled Baguette back onto my lap, and managed to find a good response.

TurtlesandFlowers: Why wouldn't I want to know? You asked first.

LittleLion: Touché my dear Laurens, touché.

I laughed and decided I should do something productive, which involved screaming to Peggy over the phone about all our gayness.

TurtlesandFlowers: I gtg

LittleLion: Ok, I'll be awake all night if you want to talk again.

I then went to WhatsApp and called Peggy. She didn't pick up. I tried again. And again. And again. And again. Then she picked up.

What do you want John? It's 4:32. She asked.

"Hey. I dunno, couldn't go to sleep." I told her.

Then suck it up and go to sleep, unless you have scalding tea for me. Figuratively and literally.

"Depends."

Then tell me immediately before I fall asleep then.

"You know how I told you about Alex?"

Your New York boyfriend? Yeah, I know him.

"He's not my boyfriend Peggy, we've gone over this before."

Yeah, yeah. Well go back to reading Hamilton books and tell me tomorrow, because I'm tired.

Peggy hung up and I did as she said, I read through the books I had that were always stacked by my bed, and were wearing down because of all the love they got. I fell asleep with my favorite book lying open in front of me
