Everyone's Lives are Going Great

I watched as my wife played with our daughter and her blocks. How had I ever thought Angie would leave me? I love her, she loves me, and I'm happy with that. I was going out to try and find a job as a therapist or something along those lines. I'd graduated valedictorian of my year and I hope that'll aid me in my search for a job. Angie has a stable job as a human rights lawyer and I wanted to do something with my degree. So far my life has been going uphill, and it doesn't look like it's gonna head down any time soon.

I sat on the couch, Alex leaning next to me, reading a book on law. My assignment was fairly simple, and I finished it quickly.

"Hey Alex, wanna watch a movie?"

"Chicago." He mumbled, barely drawing his attention from his book.

I took his book, folding a the page he was on and kissing him quickly before turning on Chicago. Honestly, I was happy with things how they were.

It's a little sad to wake up and remember John's up in New York, but it's fine, me and Laf call him every night and he's happy with Alex. I stretched on the couch, looking at the pictures on the wall. There were some from Angie and Theo's marriage, a few from the time we went up to New York to visit the King's students, lots of Peggy, Ria, Laf John and I, but most were pictures of Laf and I. Which makes sense. Things are going pretty smoothly, life is being nice right now.

I kissed Liz on the cheek before walking off to my class. I loved my girlfriend, and it was a bonus that we were both called Elizabeth, we joked about that a lot, acting out Heathers scenes with another girl in my class named Elizabeth. I rushed into class and sat next to Elizabeth, (or Libby, as she preferred) pulling out my laptop as I settled down.

"Angie and Theo got married!" I squealed to her excitedly.

"Oh my god when?" She responded, eyes wide.

"A few months ago."

"And you never told me?"

"It slipped my mind."

"Oh well, when can I expect your wedding to be?"

"Shut up Eliza!"

"Sorry Eliza."

We burst out laughing as the professor walked in. I'll just say, this year's been going great.

I sat in a coffee shop, scrolling through my photos and sipping my drink, Seattle sun warming my back. I know from living here for long enough it's going to go away soon, and it'll start raining, so I like to enjoy the sun while it lasts. I smiled as I looked at pictures of Alex and I. We'd gone to a book signing thing because I'd dragged him there, insisting he should go, and it had actually been fun. I'm so glad I have him as my brother, and so relieved he wasn't dead all those years I believed him to be. Thank Jesus. I noticed clouds start to darken and creep in front of the sun, and soon the soothing sound of rain started beating against the windows. Living in Seattle has gotten me used to storms and rain, but it had freaked me out at first. Things have been going well, and I would not surprised if everything went downhill sooner or later. So far though, I'll enjoy every moment of peace I can get before everything goes to shit again.

"I want a dog." I said to Maria, who was in the kitchen.

"There's a 'no pets policy' babe." My girlfriend reminded me.

"So? I have a house. I don't even know why we're still staying in the dorms, you could move into my house."

Maria sighed. "Ok, but can it be a lab?"

"Of course!" I smiled.

"Well I'll do the paperwork while you look for a puppy, ok?"

"Yes!" I did a little happy dance.

Best day of my life. I'm getting a dog and my girlfriend and I are moving into my house! Spontaneous decisions are sometimes great! Yay! *happy Peggy noises*

I was tired but sleep is for the weak. Everyone I've talked to recently seems happy, and they all seem pretty sure that their lives are gonna stay great. I disagree. I typed furiously at my laptop, finishing up an essay. Why hadn't I written the stupid thing earlier? This annoys me. But I was hanging out with John, so I have a reason to not do my work. Also, I'd been working on a story so I had two reasons. I added the final period and closed my laptop, regretting that a few seconds later because I opened it again, turning on some music. I went over to my story, rereading my three chapters. I'd published another book fairly recently, fiction this time, and I'd had another idea, which I was writing. Honestly, I'm thinking about just throwing it all to the wind and becoming a full-time author. I appeared to be doing pretty well for now. I got lost in my writing and the music, only to realize it was midnight and John would probably notice me playing Be More Chill soon enough. Which he did.

"Alex? Why're you awake?" John mumbled.

"Dunno, I drank some coffee and I had an essay." I shrugged, pausing Micheal in the Bathroom and saving my text, closing my laptop.

"Go to sleep."

"Why?"

"Because it's 1AM and you have morning classes."

"That doesn't matter, I'm fine." I yawned.

"No, you're falling asleep. Now go to sleep, please."

"Fine." I got up and put my laptop aside, sighing.

I crawled under the blanket and John wrapped his arms around me. I was drifting to sleep when my phone rang.

"Why?" I muttered, sitting up and picking up the phone. "Alexander Hamilton here, who're you and why're you calling me at 1:37 in the morning?"

Do you know Peter Hamilton?

"Yeah, he's my cousin, why?"

I'm his neighbor, I found him unconscious a few minutes ago it seems he... attempted suicide... I'm sorry.

"Holy shit." I gasped and John sat up worriedly. "Is he ok? Where is he?"

He's been taken to the hospital, they won't let anyone see him, but I can contact you when you can see him.

"Yes please, thank you so much for telling me."

I hung up and laid down, worried now. John hugged me and I relaxed into his grip, still shaky when I fell asleep.
