Butterflies in Winter?
(its Christmas cause I was getting bored of it not being)
(Alex P.O.V)
I sat in the backseat of Theo's car, laptop on my knees, as we drove from the airport to the address Peggy had given us. Theo drove down to he beach and parked her car at the end of a driveway, I looked up said driveway and saw a fairly small two-story pastel yellow house planted in a garden with vines creeping over the walls. This was definitely Peggy's house, no doubt about it.
"Aww Angie this place is so nice!" Theo squeaked, getting out of the car to look at the house.
"Glad you like it."
Theo and Angie whipped their heads around, but I was inspecting a funny plant that seemed to me looking at me, so mysterious disembodied voices weren't my problem. Then the funny plant flew away. Was it a butterfly? Why was there a butterfly? It was winter! I looked as the little creature flew off, then got up and walked over to my friends. Maria and Peggy were standing on one side of the car as Pegs introduced everyone. When she spotted me, she waved and ginned.
"G'day Pegs, Mari." I bowed to them with a flourish, and the two girls laughed.
"Ok Alex, try to stay still, will you?" Angelica chided.
"Aww, but I was just being polite." I pouted, looking up at her innocently.
Theo laughed but Peggy scrambled around to us and grabbed a suitcase. It was Theodosia's and she chased the younger girl, insisting she gave it back. I watched as they slipped inside, Peggy waving briefly before closing the door. I saw Angie approach her sister's girlfriend, so I grabbed Maria's hand and fished my laptop out from inside the car.
"Angie, don't interrogate our host." I copied her chiding tone and smirked.
Maria laughed and I adjusted the straps of my bag. I had packed my things into a bag, because I only needed clothes for a little under two weeks. I had a few other things in there too, but most of them small. I held my computer under my arm and followed Maria up the driveway.
"I honestly have no idea why the plants aren't dying." Maria looked at the garden, shaking her head as if in disappointment.
"I know less than you." I shrugged. "Angie! You coming?"
She nodded and grabbed a suitcase, trotting up the gravel drive. We stepped inside the house to a room that was a very nice pale salmon color. I'm an author, not an artist, I don't know individual color names except for a few; mahogany, crimson, royal blue, powder blue, turquoise, salmon, and... ummm... yeah that's about it. I was looking around until Peggy appeared at the top of the stairs and gave me the jump scare of my life. I yelped and sprang back, which caused Peggy to laugh.
"Get up here, I'll show you the layout of the house." She called from the top of the stairs.
I trotted up behind her, Angie tailing me and Maria having left towards what I assume is the kitchen. The second floor was the same color as the first, and there were lots of white doors set into the walls. If you heard the rooms, you'd think what a big house. It's not big though, just compact, in a cozy way. I noticed Peggy knock at one of the doors and nothing happened for a considerable amount of time.
"Laf! Herc!" She yelled at the door. "Stop making out and come say hi!"
I looked at her in confusion, then the door opened and a tall man peeked out. He had big curly hair pulled up in a ponytail, and a white shirt with the French flag printed on it.
"Bonjour..?" He looked around, clearly confused.
Angie took a step forwards and held out her hand for him to shake.
"Angelica Schuyler, have we met?" She looked him up and down.
"Oui, I know you." He shook her hand, shaking his head as if to clear his thoughts. "I'm Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette."
"Oh, yeah, I remember you Lafayette!" Angelica grinned and took a step back, recognition flashing in her eyes.
Theo rounded a corner from what may have been the bathroom and stood beside me, looking at her girlfriend as she caught up with the Frenchman. Oh, did I forget to mention that? Theo and Angie are dating now. A second man moved to stand beside this Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette person, and I watched as their hands intertwined.
Angie introduced Theo to the boys, and I leaned against the wall, waiting for this to be over so I could go hang out with Peggy in person. Or type. I had stuff to write and I wouldn't mind just getting it done with... Then the second guy, who I learnt was called Hercules Mulligan, pointed at me.
"Who's he? He's just been standing there." I looked him in the eyes then sighed.
"Allow me to introduce myself." I bowed slightly. "Alexander Hamilton, at your service, sir."
Hercules looked at me, then Peggy, then Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, and mouthed something I couldn't catch. I hope they haven't read my books, and are just thinking holy crap that guy looks like he hasn't slept in months. It appeared that was the case, because Hercules nodded to me and waved at Angelica and Theo, then closed the door.
"Well, that was something." Angie stated. "Got any other friends hidden up your sleeve Pegs?"
Peggy glanced at me, then her sister, and looked Angie in the eyes before heading over to another room.
"This, Angie and Theo, is your room." She waved a hand inside, and the two girls walked in, nodding gratefully. Pegs closed the door and turned to me.
"So Alex, how ya doin?" She asked.
"I'm good, what was up with the Mulligan guy?" I asked, trying not to sound rude.
"Alexander Hamilton isn't exactly a common name, and you appear to just get more and more popular as the day goes by." Peggy shrugged and led me back downstairs. "You were going to have the attic, but the roof started leaking over the only inhabitable part, so you can sleep on the couch."
"I'm fine with that." I nodded and went to sit on the couch I was going to sleep on.
Maria walked in and muttered something to Peggy.
"Honestly I don't know." Peggy shrugged.
Maria sighed and opened the front door, pulling on shoes and a coat, then stepped out into the garden. I watched her walk around, calling for something.
"Lost a dog?" I asked.
Peggy shook her head. "Lost a friend."
We sat in silence for a while, mainly because I'd been offered coffee, and that got me to shut up. But then Maria stepped in, smiling, and waved to us.
"Found him!" She called.
A boy walked in, he seemed to be about my age and had curly brown hair tied up in a ponytail. Freckles covered his face and he was smiling, holding a sketchbook to his chest.
"What the hell John?!" Peggy sprang up and trotted up to the boy.
"I was drawing!"
"Well stay inside when you're drawing."
"There are no good references inside." The boy who's name was John whined.
"He makes a point." I sipped my coffee and looked up. Our eyes connected, ooo his eyes are pretty! They were a very pretty hazel color that wanted to try (and surely fail) to recreate on a canvas or something.
"That's not helping, Alex." Peggy commented. "Aren't you supposed to be a lawyer?"
"I'm a law student." I retorted. "But if you want to play that game, I'll work on this John fellow's case." I waved a hand at him and smiled, and he seemed to freeze up.
"Jesus Christ Hamilton." Peggy muttered, pinching her nose bridge.
"You started it."
The boy looked at me then bolted. Damn, Peggy had some odd friends.

"I'm a law student. But if you want to play that game, I'll work on this John fellow's case." He waved a hand in my direction grinned and I felt my brain die.
A hot guy smiled at me, without a trace of mockery.
"Jesus Christ Hamilton." I heard Peggy mumble. Wait. What? I knew his face seemed familiar...
"You started it." I bolted. Holy shit Peggy, I'm getting you back for this.

Alex stared at John as he ran. Oops.
