Chapter 53 - Lost in dark

Charlotte's POV

Once we finished having dinner at one of the best restaurants in the island, we strolled hand in hand, enjoying the starry night, and then, we went to the nightclub.

I took a few sips from my cocktail after dancing with my gorgeous fiancé.

"Thank you for bringing me here. The island is magnificent." I commented happily, wrapping my arms around Alex's neck.

"You are welcome, koukla mou." He winked at me before placing a chaste kiss on my lips.

His expression changed when he looked behind me.

"Are you okay? Where are you looking at?" I asked, worried and wanted to turn around to look where he was looking, but he grabbed my arm stopping me.

"Yes. I just thought I saw someone I knew, but I was wrong. It isn't him." He replied, giving me a nervous look. "Let's leave." He suggested, holding my hand.

"Isn't it early?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.

"I want to continue our night where we will be alone." He replied seductively, running his finger along my cheek. I nodded, giving him a bright smile.

I searched the other side of the bed sleepily. I frowned and opened my eyes as I couldn't find Alex.

"Where are you, Alex?" I mumbled worriedly, getting up, and put on his shirt before going to the living room.

Alex had been acting weird since we left the nightclub. Even when we made love, it was different; it was more brutal and rough. I couldn't say I didn't like it, but I knew something was bothering him.

When I walked into the living room, I found my fiancé drinking while staring through the window, preoccupied. He sighed, straightening, and placed his empty glass on the table before approaching the window without noticing me.

I walked towards him quietly and wrapped my arms around his waist from behind, placing a soft kiss on his naked muscular back.

"Are you okay?" I asked, leaning my head against his back, still hugging him from behind. "You look preoccupied." I added, caressing his chest.

"I am fine. Don't worry." He sighed and entwined our hands. "I couldn't fall asleep."

"After our bedroom workout?" I asked mischievously and ran my lips along his back without kissing it.

He chuckled in amusement and turned around.

"Maybe we should exercise more." He commented huskily, cupping my cheeks, and leaned his forehead against mine.

"I am ready to help you." I said cockily, making him laugh.

"Let's see if you can help me with my insomnia because tomorrow we have to leave early. So I wouldn't mind sleeping at least for a few hours." He commented, stroking my cheek affectionately.

"Early? But we planned to leave in the evening." I frowned, pulling back.

"I am sorry, but I had to change our plans, koukla mou. I have to go back to New York tomorrow to meet Omar about the project. It is urgent." He gave me an apologetic look and placed a tender kiss on my forehead, still cupping my cheeks.

I gave him a suspicious look. "Do you hide something from me, Alex?" I asked, pulling back slightly, and folded my arms over my chest.

"No, koukla mou. Come on. Let's exercise more." He said huskily, giving me a salacious look. I heaved a sigh and nodded. He smiled lazily and brushed his lips against mine before lifting me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist, kissing him back while he carried me towards the bedroom.

I was sipping my champagne flute while looking at my Greek god who was talking to Troy at Stardust. We were celebrating Romeo's birthday.

"You really love him?!" Nathan commented, surprised as he approached me. I gave him a puzzled look. He gestured to Alexis with a head gesture, giving me a mischievous look.

"Umm..." I mumbled, looking at Alex tenderly.

"Wow! Actually, I thought you dated him to make me jealous." Nathan commented, amazed.

I bit my lower lip, blushing. "Well... To tell you the truth... It started that way. We had an agreement to help each other, but..."

"You fell in love with each other." Nathan finished my sentence, smiling warmly.

"Yes." I admitted it honestly.

"I am happy for you, Lottie. Wish you happiness. Be always happy." He said happily, giving me a bright smile, and gave me a friendly hug.

"Thank you, Nathan." I gave him a warm smile. "I wish you happiness as well. Victoria seems like a good girl."

His expression changed. He averted his gaze and sipped his whiskey.

"Is everything okay between you too?" I asked, puzzled as I rested my hand on his arm.

"I don't know." He mumbled sadly and heaved a loud sigh. I gave him a questioning look. "It is complicated. She..."

"Nathan! " Romeo called Nathan, cutting him off, and gestured to him to come towards him.

"Excuse me." He gave me a lazy smile and walked towards my brother in slow steps, looking gloomy.

I frowned as I sat up on the bed the following morning and yawned sleepily, looking at the other side of the bed. Alexis wasn't in the bed. He had been acting weird since we came back from the nightclub.

After having breakfast, I went to the agency. When I wanted to see Alexis, his secretary informed me that he had meetings outside, and he would not come to the agency today.

I called Alexis as soon as I walked into my office and asked him if he came home for dinner or if he had a dinner meeting. Alexis informed me dryly that he would be home for dinner and hung up the phone without letting me say anything.

I frowned and stared at my phone, dumbfounded. What was going on with him? Why did he act cold towards me? Maybe, I did something wrong unintentionally. Or there was some problem in his company; maybe, the reason for his sudden meeting with Omar was that. I had to talk to him about it this evening and solve our problem. It is unbearable when he acted cold towards me.

Once I arrived home, I walked towards the kitchen to make dinner for Alexis. I made his favorite dishes. Then I went to the bathroom to take a shower.

After putting on a red mini dress, I went to the living room. Alexis was about to arrive.

A few minutes later, Alexis walked in, looking grumpy. He greeted me dryly without even looking at me before loosening his tie.

"I made you your favourite dishes." I informed him warmly.

"Thanks." He mumbled without looking at me and walked towards the table.

I gritted my teeth in annoyance and breathed deeply, trying to calm down before joining him.

Alexis was eating his meal without talking or looking at me while I was picking at my food. I didn't have an appetite anymore. His attitude irritated me deeply.

As I couldn't bear this annoying silence, I placed my fork and knife on the plate loudly, finally getting some reaction from my Greek jerk who acted like I wasn't in the room.

"Will you tell me what got into you?" I asked, irritated.

"Nothing." He mumbled with a stoic expression on his face.

I gave him a mocking smirk. "Don't lie. Tell me what happened. Did I do something wrong unintentionally?"

"No." He replied curtly.

"Then what the hell is your problem?" I snapped angrily.

"I told you there is nothing." He shot daggers at me, placing his fork and knife on the plate loudly.

"Fine." I hissed, giving him a death glare before continuing eating, ignoring him. If he wanted to act like this, then I was in.

After a few minutes later, he placed his knife and fork on the plate and cleared his throat.

"Nathan and that girl probably broke up." He mumbled nonchalantly. I looked at him, puzzled. "She is planning to go back to her country. I heard when I went to the meeting at their restaurant in the hotel." He added and took a sip from his water.

"Oh..." I murmured, remembering my conversation with Nathan at Stardust. I felt sorry for him. So because of it, he was sad when I mentioned Victoria.

"As soon as his girlfriend dumped him, he started pursuing his ex." He commented sarcastically.

"What?" I gave him a questioning look.

"I saw you two at the nightclub on your brother's birthday. You looked so close." He replied dryly.

"We were just talking. We aren't enemies." I explained nonchalantly.

"Of course." He gave me a mocking smirk.

I frowned. "What are you implying, Alex?" I asked firmly.

"Well... That girl is out of the picture now. So nothing holds you back from getting back together again. As much as I noticed yesterday, Nathan wouldn't mind being with you again." He commented bitterly and smirked sarcastically as sadness crossed his features.

I pursed my lips together, trying to hold my smile as I understood why Alex had been behaving like this since yesterday. So my Greek god was jealous. I must be crazy, but it made me happy.

"You think wrong. I don't hope to get together with Nathan because I understand that I don't love him anymore. I love someone else." I commented calmly.
