Chapter 47 - The ex
Charlotte's POV
"Why didn't you tell me? You know she was going to pose for the campaign, don't you? Don't tell me you are here to see her." I stated firmly, giving him a suspicious look.
"Why do I have to tell you?" He asked nonchalantly, resting his hand in his pocket. "And no, of course, I am not here for her. There was nothing serious between us. And why should I tell you who I dated or not?" He asked, closing the distance between us. "Did you forget our engagement is fake?" He asked huskily, leaning against my ear.
I gritted my teeth. "Why didn't you ask her to marry you? She would gladly accept any offer. So you wouldn't ask me, and I wouldn't have to bear your jealous exes." I commented angrily.
"Because I don't want to get myself into trouble. She is a clingy bitch. I got rid of her with difficulty. I want this game to end without any problems and headaches." He stated with a stoic expression on his face as he pulled back slightly and winked at me.
"Why are you sure that I will not cause you any problems?" I asked curiously, raising my eyebrow.
He smirked wickedly, closing the distance between us. "Because I know you very well. You are a trustworthy and kind girl. So I am sure you will not create any problem for me." Alex said hoarsely, leaning against me, and ran finger along my cheek, his gaze intense with desire. I bit my lower lip, looking into his blue eyes while my heart was pounding. "Let's go, koukla mou." He whispered in my ear and ran his nose along my neck, sending shivers down my spine while I was intoxicated by his sensual sandalwood scent.

As my meeting was canceled at the last minute, I decided to see Nathan and ask if what happened in his hotel caused him problems or not. Yesterday, I asked Alex about that Arabian businessman; he told me that man went back to his country, and everything went as planned. I was relieved that I wouldn't see that bastard anymore, and he wouldn't try to assault any woman again.
As soon as I arrived at the hotel, I went to Nathan's office. I knocked on the door and opened it after hearing his husky voice.
"Hi." I greeted him, giving him a bright smile.
"Hi. How are you?" He asked warmly as we approached each other, and he placed a soft kiss on my cheek.
"I am fine. Thanks. And you?"
"Tired." He sighed and gave me a boyish smile.
"I was in the neighborhood for a meeting, but it was canceled at the last minute. So I decided to visit you."
"Would you like something to drink?" He asked after suggesting that I sat down.
"Coffee, please." He nodded and grabbed his phone.
I smiled happily as he remembered how I preferred my coffee.
A few minutes later, his assistant brought our drinks and left us alone.
"Did that bastard bother you again?" He asked firmly after taking a sip from his drink.
"No, don't worry. I heard he went back to his country. Alex told me the police arrested that man as soon as he placed his foot in Dubai because of his illegal businesses." I informed him.
"Great!" He exclaimed, relieved. "By the way, that Greek really cares about you." Nathan commented, looking me in the eyes.
"Yes, he is." I nodded, smiling.
He cleared his throat and intertwined his hands on the desk. "Don't play with his feelings."
"What?!" I narrowed my eyes, looking at him angrily.
"Both of us know why you are with him, but he is in love with you."
I gritted my teeth in annoyance. "Why are you so sure that I still love you? Don't overestimate yourself, Nathan. You aren't irreplaceable." I stated bitterly.
"Lottie, you know very well that I am right. He seems like a good man. So don't give him false hopes to make me jealous. Yes, you are so dear to me, but I don't have any romantic feelings for you as I told you before." He paused, breathing deeply. "We have the past together, and you are the sister of my friend. I don't want you to get hurt, and I am ready to help you when you need anything, but nothing more." He gave me an apologetic look.
I gritted my teeth, looking at him without saying anything. He pursed his lips together, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
"Moreover, I... I have someone else in my heart." He confessed uneasily.
I looked at him in shock without knowing what to say.
"I am sorry, Lottie." He gave me an apologetic look.
I tried to pull myself together and burst out laughing, trying not to show how I really felt. "Nathan, you are funny. I love my boyfriend so much. I forgot you. Yes, we had a good time together, but it is in the past. And I wish you happiness." I stated firmly and forced a smile. "Well, I have to go now. See you later." I said as I stood up, grabbing my bag, and left quickly.
As soon as I left the hotel, I breathed deeply. It felt like I was holding my breath. I squeezed the strap of my bag tightly, gritting my teeth. Nathan's confession still repeated in my head.
I closed my eyes, ruffling my hair. Then I heaved a loud sigh and walked towards my car in quick steps as the valet brought my car.
When I arrived home, I decided to go to my bedroom. Suddenly, my phone rang. I sighed and pulled my phone out of my bag. It was Sienna. I picked up the phone and sat down on the stair, placing my bag beside me.
As she noticed I was upset, she asked me what happened. I decided to tell her what Nathan told me today; I needed to talk to her about it to feel better.
"Hmm... You received the news calmly." She commented.
I frowned. "How did you wait for me to act? To find and kill that girl?" I asked mockingly.
"No, just... You wouldn't kill her, but the Charlotte who I know would probably find out who that girl was for now and try to make her run away from Nathan. And you would be busy watching drama, eating ice cream while crying before starting your cruel plan." She commented knowingly.
I bit my lower lip, lost in my thoughts without saying anything.
"It seems some Greek god used his superpowers on you." She said mischievously, interrupting my thoughts. "You can deny it as much as you want, but you don't love Nathan like before because Alex managed to penetrate your heart." She added confidently.
"Don't talk nonsense, Sienna." I said, rolling my eyes.
"If you say so." She commented, amused.
I exhaled loudly. "You look like your husband. You became annoying like him." I frowned in annoyance. "I have to hang up. Bye."
"Yes, you have to get ready before your hottie fiancé comes back home. See you later." I rolled my eyes and hung up my phone as she chucked, amused.
I threw my phone into my bag and sighed, holding my head between my hands, closing my eyes, thinking what Sienna told me.
Did my feelings towards Nathan change?
And Alex...
Did I fall in love with Alex?
No, it is impossible. Yes, every woman would want a man like Alex, and I like spending time with him, but falling in love with him.... No, we are just partners in crime.
"Are you okay?" Alex asked, interrupting my thoughts.
I lifted my head instantly as my heart started pounding.
"Yes, yes." I mumbled nervously.
He raised his eyebrow, resting his hands on his hips.
I sighed, ruffling my hair. "Today, I went to see Nathan." When his expression changed, I clarified. "Don't worry. I remember our conditions. I just went to ask if what happened in the hotel caused him problems or not."
"Don't worry. My men took care of everything. So no one knows what happened there, excluding us." Alex reassured me as he sat down beside me on the stairs. "But why are you sad?" He asked, concerned.
I pursed my lips together, averting my gaze. "Nathan... he loves someone else."
"Hmm."
I gave him a puzzled look. "You don't look surprised."
"Well... I had suspected that he had another woman in his life, but I didn't think it was serious." He gave me an impish look.
I raised my eyebrow. "You think it is Victoria?!" I murmured, dumbfounded.
"His favorite employee." He gave me a sly smirk.
"Don't talk nonsense." I mumbled, shaking my head while remembering how many times I saw them together. Could it be possible? Did Nathan love that girl?
Alex sighed and held my hand. "Don't be upset. It is his loss. You are the most beautiful, caring, funny and feisty woman I have ever met." He said, looking into my eyes, and gave me a charming smile. I gave him a dirty look when he emphasized the word-feisty. "He is blind for not seeing how amazing you are." He added huskily, squeezing my hand, and caressed my cheek tenderly, looking into my eyes.
