Chapter 3
(Russell's POV)
It's been a little over a year now, since the games.. The last place I thought we would be? Sitting in a big jail cell, the entire crew taken by the navy. Well, the entire crew was taken, but we were currently missing three. We had been happy, just a few days ago, before this entire mess started. The crew was getting along fine, and we were getting ready to plan our next treasure quest, Cecilia and Morgan had just gotten married not too long ago, before this shit storm started.
Now, we had an impending curse over our heads, or at least doomed to something to do with either the Flying Dutchman, or The Queen Anne's Revenge, if we didn't get this treasure in a week. That was all thanks to some deal Morgan made to get the Sirius, plus the navy got us, and now two of our crew members were dragged off to God knows where exactly, while one was being interrogated. I look over at Nathan, and Christopher, both quiet as hell now.
They were upset, understandably so, Arabella and Luna had both been dragged off, the navy seeming all too happy to hand them over to someone else that wanted them, for whatever reason that still didn't make sense to me, though maybe it was just because the navy wanted to be assholes, who knows. The girls had shouted something though, so they seemed to know where they were getting dragged off to. Nate and Chris seemed to fully understand what they had said, but neither seemed to be in the mood to share.
Hell, I was worried myself. Kris had been dragged off to be interrogated by some navy woman, though all we really know was that at one point she had been Kris's step mother, though we still didn't know the full story yet. I do know, that Kris was pissed when she saw her.
"Been a hell of a couple days huh?" Eduardo exclaims suddenly, breaking the silence that seemed so heavy.
Nathan snorts. "Yea you could say that.... Fuck!" He exclaims, looking frustrated, as he puts his head in his hands.
"Everything happened so fast." Allison adds, looking at everyone.
"Too damn fast." Penelope agreed, nodding at the other girl.
"It does no good getting worked up. What's done is done, we can only move forward and try to get out of this mess." Cecilia says, trying to be the voice of reason and comfort.
I snort. "Not only do we have to go get our missing crew members, we got black beard on our ass unless we get the treasure. Don't help we gotta track down Arabella, and Luna. Shit, we don't even know exactly where the hell they are, or much about the people that the damn navy handed them over to." I scoff, getting frustrated myself.
"I know where they took Luna, but we're gonna have a hell of a time getting her back." Christopher says tiredly.
"I know where Arabella is.... Same though.... Gonna be hell gettin' her outta there. The girls knew. Hell, that's what they were doin when they dragged them off, yellin, telling us where they were probably taking them." Nathan adds suddenly, sounding tired himself.
"We're the Sirius dammit! We can get out of this! The girls are tough, and can hold their own till we can get to them. First we have to get away from the damn navy. Arabella and Luna will be alright! We have to have faith in our crews abilities. Nate, Chris, I know you're upset, hell we all are, but have some faith in your women. They can handle themselves. They're fighters. We all are. So start acting like it." Penelope announces, fire in her green eyes as she stands before the crew, looking at all of us.
The door to the cell opens suddenly, and Kris is brought back in, cussing up a storm. "Fucking bitch! Damn sadistic bitch!" She yells, as they throw her back in the cell. I run over to her, throwing my arms around her. I'm so damn relived they gave Kris back.
"Shit. I was so dammed worried." I say, before pulling her to me, and kissing her roughly.
She pulls away, laughing. "It'd take more than the navy to get to me Russ." She says, still laughing.
"Penelope is right. We can get out of this. I'd say we're determined enough." Cecilia says, looking to everyone.
"Well crew, we've got a road ahead of us, but the first step is getting out of here." Morgan announces, mischief in his eyes as he stands up, addressing the crew.
"What did the navy woman want Kris? How did that all start?" I ask Kris, drawing everyone's attention to her.
She sighs, running a hand back through her hair before answering. "My real mother was a nurse, my father, a lieutenant in the navy. They were loving parents, and we were an upper class family. Dad worked a lot, so it was mom that mostly took care of me. Though when I was a teenager, my dad got hurt kinda bad by pirates, so he was around more often during that time. It made me hate pirates for awhile.. Oddly enough." She says, laughing wryly before she continues.
"When I was older, around high school age, I wanted to be a doctor. Mom thought that was good, and she supported me in that, but dad always wanted me to join the navy instead. Eventually, when he saw how much I wanted to be a doctor, he came to respect that decision. I worked hard in school, and was at the top of my class. I was also into sports, captain of the volleyball team. Anyway, I graduated with honors. It was right after I graduated, I was eighteen at the time, mom had a heart attack, and died." She paused a moment, taking a deep breath.
"It really hit both of us hard when she died... I never did go to medical school, and I just kinda lost my ambition. I stayed at home instead, kinda taking over what my mom did... Cooking, and cleaning... That sorta stuff. My dad suggested the navy again, but I still declined. I told him I wasn't ready..." She trailed off, a far off look in her hazel eyes, seeing something that we couldn't. Like a distant memory.
"A few weeks later, my dad told me I was joining the navy whether I liked it or not. It kinda shocked me really, I was used to making my own decisions. He basically told me to get off my lazy ass and get a job. That mom was dead, and I had to get over it. I couldn't really complain, he was right in a sense...so I joined the navy." She stops again glancing at everyone. I wrapped an arm around her, pulling her towards me. She didn't fight it, and let me, resting her head on my shoulder as she continued her story.
"After about a half year of training, I was a navy soldier. They taught me to be stronger, and tough. I was sent to the Molodor port, and, it was eye opening to say the least. I saw how the navy actually acted. I honestly hated it. They were so cruel and mean to people, civilians. It just wasn't me, hell, there were nicer pirates out there ya know?" She jokes, laughing slightly.
"So I finally decided to tell my father I was gonna quit. I came home early to tell him, and walked in on him kissing Claire. It hurt seeing that... It was like.. Did my mom mean nothing to him?" Her voice cracked, and I pulled her to me once more, hugging her.
She pulled away after a moment, smiling at me slightly, before continuing. "How could he get over her death so quickly ya know? So he introduced me to Claire. She was pretty, and well, you all met her. She was the exact opposite of my mother, bossy, demanding, and narcissistic. Dad told me that they had been dating for awhile now. Turns out they were both captains in the navy, and made quite the dynamic duo." She spat, sounding angry at the memory.
"He also mentioned how Claire so helpfully pushed him to put me in the navy. I pretended to be happy, for my dad. But I hated Claire. She was manipulative, and I wasn't sure why dad kept her a secret, but I never asked. Soon Claire moved in, and she started to try and control my life. She picked out what I wore, what I ate, and what men I could date. When I didn't like something, and tried to tell her no, Claire would force me to anyways, or beat my ass. Her favorite threat was 'you don't want me to break your daddy's heart do you? Then stay quiet and do what I say.'" She continued, mimicking Claire for the last part.
"When I was almost twenty one, it occurred to me that I was fully capable to take care of myself. I finally quit the navy, then came home and cussed her out. I told her I won't let her control my life anymore, and I don't care what she says. She was cooking at the time, and took the hot ass spatula she was cooking with, and smacked me across the face with it, to get me to shut up. Shit was fucking hot. Anyway, right after, Claire left, off to tell my dad some twisted version of what happened." She snorted, shaking her head.
"Anyway, I immediately started to pack my belongings, deciding to find a better life, considering my current one had obviously gone to shit at the time. I was so pissed I forgot about the burn, not even feeling it as I got my stuff together. My father got home before I left, and scolded me for my bad behavior. That was it. How could he take that bitches side instead of mine, ya know? He didn't believe me, when you could clearly see that bitch burned me. So I left, and headed to the port. Along the way, I helped save an injured pirate from the navy, who turns out, was a captain, and let me on his ship...." She paused, trailing off once more, a slight smile tugging her lips.
"Then I mostly just jumped from crew to crew, learning as much as I could. It was like I was meant to be a pirate. I loved the adventure, and that no one was holding me down. I could do what I wanted, I was independent, and I loved every minute of it, and I also got to practice my fighting skills more. Part of me was still sad, but I learned to be happy...and I became even more sarcastic. I realized there was no point in staying unhappy, what happened in the past happened, it was over. Though, I would run into Claire one more time before I met you guys. Claire found me at a port, and attacked me. Turns out the crazy bitch had been following me, because I guess she got drunk one night and admitted how bad she had actually treated me to my dad. My dad left her, and she attacked me, crazy bitch that she is. I fought back, did some damage, and I knocked her out, but I couldn't kill her. Hell, I still can't. Anyway, I was caught by the navy after that, and that was not too long before I met you guys at the skull." She finishes, glancing at everyone.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all that. That's horrible, to lose your mother, then your step mother is a horrible person..." Penelope trails off, looking at Kris.
We're interrupted by the sound of footsteps once more, three navy guards approach, with Claire once more, and another face we don't recognize. It was a man, he looked to be in his early thirties. He was tall, muscular, and tan, with medium length black hair, that curled at the bottom. He had fierce blue eyes, and he was looking directly at Cece, who was frozen in fear, the shock written on her face.
"Not possible. You should be dead." She spluttered finally, as she scooted as far back from the door as the cell would allow.
The man's sadistic grin widens at her words, clearly amused at her reaction. "Most of the crew did die Cece. I didn't, and clearly you didn't either. Though I guess I'm not surprised, you always were a fighter. I was surprised to find you were not only apart of the pirate king's crew, but his woman no less..." He trails off, as Claire opens the door to the cell. The man comes in, along with Claire and the rest of the navy officers, making a beeline for Cecilia.
Morgan steps forward, standing in front of his wife, fire in his stormy grey eyes. "Who are you, and what do you want with her?" He growls, glaring at the mysterious man.
"Captain Velmont, of the Notre Dame." He sneers, meeting Morgan's gaze.
"You bastard!" Kris yells, running forward, jumping at Captain Velmont. The navy officers jump forward, pulling her away from him, and throw her back towards me. "You sick fuck! Rot in hell!" Kris keeps yelling, before getting ready to launch herself at the blue eyed captain once more.
The two navy officers, along with Claire, aim their guns at us, and separate us from Morgan and Cece. The last navy officer pulls Morgan away from Cecilia, and the Captain of the Notre Dame grabs Cece by the wrist, dragging her out of the cell.
Cecilia starts kicking and thrashing, to no avail, as Morgan watches, dread written all over his face. "I'll come for you Cecilia. I promise." Morgan says seriously, as Velmont drags Cecilia out of the cell, and down the hall.
"Aww so sad." Claire sneers, watching us. "But I have a new cell mate for you.." She grins, and another navy officer throws someone into the cell, before closing the door. Someone we recognize all too well. Captain Cecil.
Thomas immediately steps in front of Allison protectively, and Kris and Penelope immediately go by her as well, both girls looking like they were ready to pounce.
"Make one wrong move towards her and you're dead asshole." Penelope growls, her green eyes burning as she glares at Allison's previous captain.
Cecil rolls his eyes at her. "I highly doubt you have anything to kill me with." He says, before directing his gaze towards Allison. "What still need protection Allison? Pathetic." He scoffs, and Kris launches her self at him, knocking him off his feet, before punching him in the face.
"You shut the fuck up. I may not have a weapon, but I can still beat the shit out of you." She snarls, before punching him again, as they start to roll around on the floor, fighting.
"Should we pull her off of him?" Chris asks suddenly, scratching the back of his neck.
"Would it be a bad time to offer Kris a throwing dagger?" Nathan smirks, pulling out what looked like one of Arabella's throwing knives from his boot.
"How the hell do you have that? And na, I wouldn't. We would draw attention to our cell if they catch her stabbing him." I reply, laughing.
"Arabella slipped them into my boot before they took her. Sneaky woman." Nathan adds, smirking.
"I really think we should pull her off now." Christopher cuts in, motioning to Kris and Cecil.
"Eh, I'd say give her a few more minutes. Not like he doesn't deserve it." Penelope adds, watching the fighting pair in amusement.
"We should start figuring out how to get the hell out of here though." Eduardo cuts in, glancing at everyone.
I suddenly hear a small giggle, along with a odd noise, like the sound of something being dragged across metal. I look up, to see a little girl, about ten or so, dragging a wooden spoon across the bars of our cell, as she walks past it. She is barefoot, and very pale, her black hair in two braids. She has on a faded white dress, her pale orange eyes are shining with mischief. I shake my head, blinking a few times, not quite believing what I see. How the hell is there a little girl in a navy prison?
"What is it Russ?" Penelope asks, glancing from me, and to the door, and back.
"I swore I just saw a little girl..." I trail off, not quite believing what I had seen myself.
"Anyway. I'd say we pull Kris off of him now." Nathan points out, nodding at Kris and Cecil.
I get up, and me and Nathan, pull Kris off of captain Cecil, who had a bloody lip, and nose by this point. "Think twice before messing with her again asshole." Kris says, a triumphant smile on her face.
I hear the resonating sound of something thumping the metal once more, and see the little girl again. "Okay I'm not crazy, tell me you see her too." I exclaim, pointing to the little girl, who stops suddenly, tilting her head as she looks back at me.
"I see her." Allison says, as she goes up to the door, and crouches down in front of the little girl. "Hi sweetie my name is Alli, what's your name?" Allison asks, meeting the little girls gaze.
The little girl smiles cutely, before answering. "I'm Dee." She answers, smiling.
"Well Dee, what are you doing here by yourself?" Allison asks, and Dee merely shrugs, looking at the rest of our crew as she does so.
"I can get you out of here. You need help right? I can help." Dee says, and everyone looks at her shocked.
"Yes. We do." Allison answers, and Dee merely nods, holding her hand out towards the lock of the cell. There was a sudden CLICK, and the door opened. We all stare at the little girl, shocked.
"What are you waiting for crew, let's go!" Captain exclaims, walking out of the cell. We all follow, though Allison stops a moment.
"Not you." Allison says, stopping. She stops, holding out her hands towards Captain Cecil, ice forming on his legs, pinning him to the floor. "Pathetic my ass. Suck on that asshole." She added, smirking, before walking out of the cell with everyone else.
Allison stops in front of little Dee, crouching down to her level. "Can you show us the way out Dee? Can you get us to our ship?" Allison asks the little girl.
"Of course I can!" Dee shouts enthusiastically, before she starts skipping down the hall, motioning for us all to follow her.
We start following her, and sure enough, about twenty minutes later, were out, heading for the docks, the Sirius in sight.
"Stop! Escapees!!" Someone yells, and we see a bunch of navy approaching. We break out into a run, heading for the Sirius. Nathan scoops up Dee, carrying the little girl as he ran, and we all make it to the Sirius, quickly setting sail.
We all gather in the dining room, a little later, discussing what we were going to do next, and figuring out what to do with our little passenger.
"Do you have a home or parents? Somewhere we can take you Dee?" Allison asks the little girl, who was currently siting on Thomas's lap.
Dee shakes her head, looking at everyone. "No. I don't have anywhere to go. I'm supposed to help you. That's why I'm here." She answers vaguely.
Allison looks slightly confused, but shrugs it off. "Well...we can't just dump her somewhere, if she has nowhere to go..." Allison trails off, looking at everyone.
"We're on kinda a dangerous mission right now though... Where we're going, and what we are gonna face might be too dangerous for her." Morgan adds, looking slightly tired. You could tell he was still upset over Cece getting taken.
"We can't just leave her. She helped us escape." Thomas chimes in, defending the little girl.
Morgan nods, looking thoughtful. "I know she did. I'm grateful, I just don't want her to get hurt. She can stay for now." He announces, and we all nod.
"I can help you find the island. You're looking for it right? The island no one can find?" She asks innocently, her light orange eyes grazing the room as she looks at us.
Our jaws all drop at her words, gaping at her. How can she possibly help us find the isla de muerte?
