Chapter 34: Finally
RIVYN'S P.O.V.
This was the only time I thanked Mother Nature for the gift of pads, sealing the odour of my incident.
He pushed his curled locks out of his nervy eyes, a goofy smile peeking. I touched my chest, tasting a hint of salt as I licked my glossy lips. His gorgeous fingers opened the lid, and my breath caught.
A sparkling silver ring sunk in a red cushion, it a simple design with a tiny heart diamond moulded within the centre. "Fuck," I murmured, my heart pounding as tears began to build up. "What's wrong with you Brian?"
He gave that lopsided grin, the one that got all the girls swooning; something that could electrify any body and churn the waves in any girl's stomach. The smile I fell in love with. The smile I knew I couldn't live without.
"It's a promise ring," he stated, and I couldn't help, but heave a loud exhale in relief.
"Damn you," I coldly glared, and he laughed. "Don't scare me like that, you could have-"
"Rivyn?"
"What?"
He left his hand out, "Can I?"
"No."
"Why?"
"You're crazily mad, Brian."
"You're not so shabby yourself."
A warm chuckle came from his throat, and I ran my fingers up his jaw, cupping his soft cheeks. "Brian, I'm not sure you know what you're agreeing to."
"Trust me," he grinned, causing a warm rush up my arms, "I took several knock-outs from you. I think I know what I'm getting myself into."
"You don't know me like I do."
"Oh, but I do. I know you more than you know yourself." He tangled his fingers with mine, twining them together. I've never seen anything so perfect.
I wiped another rolling tear, and sniffed. Tears of joy. Unbelievable. And I never cried. "So what would I be promising to?"
Brian rubbed my palm, and gulped, "To never forget."
"Forget what?"
"Me."
I choked on my tears, and stroked his skin, shaking my head. Loosening my fingers, I held it open for him to take. "Brian, I will never forget you."
He brightened and he carefully held my wrist like it was glass. His hand kept shaking as he tried to get the ring on my finger, and I giggled as he dropped it.
"You're such a klutz." Looking up, his smile couldn't get any bigger as he slowly slipped the ring on, fitting perfectly.
My eyes gleamed as it reflected from the silver, and one more tear tumbled down. Everyone clapped, standing as more cameras clicked. Charlie shot him a thumbs up, but Brian didn't bother to turn back, still gazing at me.
"What?" I asked, unable to contain my grin. "Why do you keep staring? Do I have something on my face? Oh god, is my make-up running? Does it look bad? How about my-"
"Rivyn?"
"Yes?"
"Shut up."
About to shoot a remark, he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled my body flushed against his, my mouth immediately shutting. Our heads locked, and I automatically draped my arms around his neck, breathing in his thick vanilla after-shave. His eyes sparkled as they were glued to mine, nothing able to step between us. We were in our own world.
"You're so beautiful," he whispered, and I blushed. He tipped my chin, "I mean it. Do you love me?" I slowly nodded, my mouth unable to answer. "Is that a yes?"
"What do you think, dipshit?" I laughed, and crashed my lips onto his. Fireworks exploded, the kiss sweet, but not needy. Slow and beautiful yet exciting at the same time. I pictured us doing this every night, sitting on a boat, the sun dipping into its peaceful bed, under the sea. Stars would twinkle, fish would sing, and there was no time in the air. We would be lost. Lost in our own little world. Together.
I pulled back as we came up for air, tingles still vibrating from my toes. I was taken aback by his bewildered look, his lips lazily slanted like a little boy having his first kiss. I laughed and was about to dip into seconds until Louise cleared her throat.
Brian and I flushed, but Charlie laughed, whispering something to Louise. The two chuckled and I wondered what they were saying. The music began to play again, MC Wallface's and DJ Easy Rock's, 'Takes Two."
Charlie did a little dance, and Louise shook her head, and turned around, ready to throw the flowers. Without delay, all the ladies gathered around, huddling for the big ticket. Even Maryna was pushing her way in, shoving her mom to the side.
"You're not going to go?" whispered Brian, his lips brushing my ear lobe as his arms remained around my waist.
"Why bother? I have everything I've ever wanted right here," I grinned, and pecked a kiss on his cheek. Heat rose up his face, and he melted, eyes dazed.
"One!" called out Louise, closing her eyes. "Two!" The woman squealed, eyes prying on the bouquet. "Three!" The garlands of roses were tossed in the air, and everyone dove, hands greedily hungry for the prized possession. For a moment, I was confused to who got it, the large crowd of ladies piled on top of each other. Then stepped up Kelly, her hands holding the flowers in surprise.
"Oh!" she giggled, and smelled the roses. All the ladies groaned, and whined, including Maryna who was pouting, arms crossed.
Louise chuckled, and soon, a carriage pulled up, but instead of horses lugging the round coach, it was two large elephants, their trunks thrown into the air in celebration. The happy couple waved their fairwells, and it was like a scene from Cinderella. She picked up her gown, and laughed as the two rushed up to the huge pumpkin shaped ride. Lovely doves soared in the air as someone opened the cage, and several little girls threw pedals after they closed the door. The two stuck their heads out the window, and waved one last time as they went underway, down the path of the garden, into their own little world.
The claps slowly died as they soon looked to be a speck in the distance, and I expected everyone to stand up, getting ready to leave. But everyone stayed put. Confusion washed on my face, and I turned back to the pathway.
Aunt Darby howled as she waved her cowboy hat in the air, her head sticking out of the driver's seat. Coming barrelling towards us was a large blue tinted truck; that crazy women's hands spiralling on the wheel as she drifted to stop, right at our feet.
"Darby?" I gasped, and my aunt hopped out, dressed in overalls. I ran over and got the loving suffocating hug I knew would come. "What are you doing here?"
"Well...I decided to come to Bangkok with you, but once I received a phone call from this idiot," she pointed to Brian, "and said to come crashing with a big ass truck, I couldn't resist. Crashing parties is my thing, sniggers," she ruffled my hair, and I grinned, shaking her off.
I turned to Brian, my expression still in shock. "So you planned all of this?"
He rubbed the back of his neck, and searched the ground. "Charlie helped a little of course, but yeah...I guess I did..."
"Man, you are crazy," I chuckled, and softly kissed his lips, feeling his chest melt with mine. It was slow, soft, and pleasing, but I knew we both wanted more.
"Ahem!" We looked to Darby, and she winked at Brian.
A thrilled smile broadened along his face, and he took a flower out of his jacket. I let him tuck my hair behind my ear as he placed the orange rose in under my curls. "Does it look good?" I asked, trying to get a peek.
"Breathtaking," he answered, staring at me as if I were a goddess although I wasn't. I was more of a bitch. But to him, I was a goddess. A bitchy kick-ass goddess. And I loved it.
"Now what?" I asked. He wiggled his eyebrows, and picked me up, bridal style. "Brian! Don't drop me!" He laughed, and pretended to let me slip, causing a yelp to come out of my mouth. I slapped his arm, and he laughed again.
Aunt Darby swung her hat in the air, and hopped into the front of the truck, slamming the door. Nothing could overcome my hammering heart as Brian carried me to the back of the track, claps from the crowd getting louder. Takes Two came back on and I let myself cradle up to him, snuggling next to his warm body in the back.
I felt the truck rumble once the engine started, and I heard the clanging sound of cans clatter below us. I watched as the children started to chase the back of the truck with petals, and I glanced around to see we were taking a different path from Louise and Charlie. And that was fine by me. This was our story after all. Our story was different. It was the story of a two badass's who fell in love.
"What about England?" I softly asked, my head cradled below his neck.
He stroked my hair, and glanced down, tipping my chin so we could see eye to eye. "We'll make it work. I promised remember?"
"You're right," I smiled, and he cupped my face, giving me that dazed look. The world enclosed and it was just the two of us again, jamming with the 80's with nothing but love.
Leaning in close, I prepared for another kiss, my eyes shutting to get rid of all the horrible reasons why we shouldn't be together-
Plop!
Our eyes flashed opened and I wrinkled my nose to whiff an infuriating smell. We peered on Brian's shoulder, and I laughed, throwing my head back.
The dove soaring above our heads cooed, and Brian shot a distasteful word, making me double over. Sticking to his expensive tux was a large dump of white bird poop, it dripping down his back.
He grimaced as he stared at the gooey blotch, his cheeks puffing in annoyance; looking too adorable. "You got a little crap," I offered, and he glared, trying to battle off a twitching smile.
"No shit," he grumbled, and I laughed again, clutching his arm that wrapped around my waist.
I grabbed his jaw and ran my hand through his soft curls, sensing his body relax along mine. "At least you didn't have to smell chicken crap for ten hours."
"Damn birds," he smiled, shaking his head. "Such crazy ass's those creatures are."
"Like us?" I offered, and he grinned, making me melt all over again.
"Sure-" he paused, "Except we can control our bladders."
I awkwardly averted my gaze. "Yeah...Pfft...Totally..." Cough. Not.
Mind you, although I had pissed my pants and had an uncomfortable feeling between my legs, I looked past that and allowed the tranquil moment to sink into my exhausted bones. This had been a long journey.
Flashing him a bright smile, I curtained his perplexed face with a kiss. He blended our lips together, my eyes closing-this time, for longer. I wanted this to last. I wanted to stay like this forever.
However, I knew there was a chance it couldn't. Perhaps our future together won't last as long as we think. Perhaps we won't grow old on the lake shore and have tiny children running around. Perhaps he won't be my only love. But I do know that we made promise.
I would never forget O'Brian Daniels.
The boy that began my parent's addiction.
The boy that stole my best friend's virginity.
The boy that sent my cousin to rehab.
The hottest, cutest, bravest and optimistic boy who wasn't afraid to put himself out there, and face his own problems.
The reason why my life was perfect.
And I was glad he came to be my English partner.
Because I had learned to forgive and forget; forgiving the boy who stole my heart, and swept me off my feet. Forgetting the differences we had, and the people that hated me for it.
Although he was a bad boy; he was my bad boy.
My damn sexy bad boy who played me good.
But playing his game was worth it.
The End
